so what about cynicism as an opposite to naivity ?

Pyrotechnics!

Post Mon Aug 29, 2005 9:36 am

you seem to belong to a kind of endangered pogues-fan-species!
Don't get me wrong Pyro, no hard feelings, but imho that stuff belongs to the most strangest comments i've read so far
I tried to understand it - but I simply can't hehe

Pyro wrote:And btw-I would like to know, why people like so much those:
Fairytale
Rainy night
Pair of brown eyes
Sally MacLennane
Imho they are poor musically and not so great in lyrics...

... I'm glad you still like the pogues!!
Pyro wrote:Pair of brown eyes+Sally - I consider two first albums to be the worst (or "the least great" to be more accurate), because they are too simple, Terry Woods is missing very much. Or his musical influence.
+shane´s voice is too naive to me.

the addition of Mr Woods was indeed a good thing, but that doesn't make the first two albums more simple.
Pyro wrote:Rainy night - well I think lyrics are better than the music. Maybe above middle, but the music to it is ...maybe too lyric to me, but Shanely lyric, which I don´t like that much.

I fell inlove with the pogues through their music, i didn't speak any english at that time. But through the years i discovered that those shanely lyrics are damn good 8)
Pyro wrote:And If I should compare Pogues without Shane and Shane without Pogues, it would be hard as both is exceptional, but the Pogues without Shane would win it probably. They were more unique+musically and lyrically richer.

That's one point I almost agree with you!!! :D musically richer - that's fine with me. Lyrically richer ... i'd say they are pretty much on the same level.
Pyro wrote:Fairytale...It is truly a simple theme, yes, the piano isn´t bad, but I don´t like the composition later+I don´t like Kirsty MacColl very much (On 2001brixton academy it was sung by someone else and I liked it particulary). And the lyrics...well, I don´t want to harm fans of the song but they are so simple, they are almost primitive to me. Just my opinion.
And imho it is rather pop than anything else (whoah, I just want to know, how many assasins will come after me:-))

if you think that's pop, what is "Pet Shop Boys - Always on my mind" no.1 hit (that's bullshit i know, but that's what i call pop) while Fairytale was no.2.
Pyro wrote:I will try to write few problems I have with Fairytale:
I don´t like Kirsty MacColl (her opinions, her look, her voice)

i don't know any of her opinions as well as i can't judge about her look (if you have only seen the "T&C Club video"...well that's 80's style) but her voice i think is brilliant, her harmonies are sweet...i always thought that's what angels sing like (got 3 of her albums) lol

MacRua: I would say that when cynic, you can view things from distance. I find opposing thing in naivity.

Alex: Definitely right with mr. Woods. His addition didn´t make older albums more simple. Just new albums were more complicated:-)
It wasn´t only him probably though.

About Kirsty - I know some of her opinions from interviews. And I don´t like it.

First I didn´t understand English as well. And then I listened Clash + Pogues side by side. And I liked Clash lyrics more than Pogues stuff (except mr. Finer´s pieces).

Same here. I might also add Sally MacLenanne and Body of an American.

"Leaving of Liverpool" and "Greenland Whalefisheries" are my favorites at the moment.
“An’ this is the last of Brummy,” he said, leaning on his spade and looking away over the tops of the ragged gums on the distant range.
