Different days, different favourites for me.

Today it's Hell's Ditch.

Thanks. I could never quite put my finger on it. It's why I try to catch every word. Now, if I could just understand them all...

I wouldn't either. I find Night Train to Lorca to be one of their best, along with some other songs already named in this thread

It's good tp see that people aren't just picking from the 'Ultimate Collection' albums or the 15 or so greatest hits albums, but for me at the moment it's 'Sayonara' it's just one I've listened to alot recently.

That's like asking "What was your favorite Blow J**". They're all good!

I'd have to say "Rainy Night in Soho", "London you're a Lady" or "Thousands are Sailing".

Well, why apart. For me, fairytale is in a lower part (not joking).
Hard to tell, here is some of my most favourite:
If I should fall
Medley
Battle march medley
Thousands
Star of the county down
Squid out of water
Planxty noel hill
White city
Young ned
Night train to lorca
Tombstone
Hell´s ditch
Wake of medusa
Fishermen
Living in a world
When the ship comes in
Tosspint

And definitely (it is my most favourite lyrics)-Oretown

Well, maybe I am different, because I highly prefer Jem+Phillip before Shane(mainly in lyrics), maybe not

And btw-I would like to know, why people like so much those:
Fairytale
Rainy night
Pair of brown eyes
Sally MacLennane

Imho they are poor musically and not so great in lyrics...

I think that these songs, like many of Shane's, hold an appeal because they tell a story well (if ambiguously in the case of Brown Eyes). Shane is similar to Tom Waits in that respect - very good at telling stories through their lyrics.

Jem is very good at describing moods and environments rather than telling stories. He's much more about evocative imagery than intrapersonal relationships.

These are generalities of course. And I could be very wrong. It's quite late and I'm making things up just fractions of a second before the keys are being pressed.
“I know all those people that were in the film [...] But that’s when they were young and strong and full of life, you know?”
