I don't have a number-one-song because I love most of them so much. But one song I could listen to forever is "Streams of Whiskey". It's got a beautiful simplicity and is so catchy and has got some brilliant lyrics. Especially the last verse is godlike. So simple and so true.

Sadly i'm going to die one day, and Streams of Whiskey is going to be played at my funeral, which will see me off with a big smile :D

Great choice!

The great thing about Streams is that although it is a drinking song in the first place, it has got some sort of "sentimental value" in it. I refer to the third verse here. It is funny and happy and a bit sad at the same time. That's how I feel about it :D

Perfectly summed up, i also hope all present will join in on the chorus, and have a nip of Penderyn Welsh Whiskey!
Cheers

Can't believe the Pogues are finally coming to Middle America!

Top Five, no particular order - Body of an American, Rake at the Gates, Sick Bed, Rain Street, and Bottle of Smoke.

The Broad Majestic Shannon as well. The best ballad I know. It's just magic.

Yes, that was apparently the reason why the record company did not want to release "BMS" as the follow-up to "FoNY", which would have been our choice, I think. This may be the only time in recorded history that a record company turned down a follow-up single because of any inherent similarity with The Big Hit. We were right, they were wrong, a depressingly familiar pattern even then. Nothing the matter with "Fall From Grace" but it was not the follow up to "FoNY". Well, it was, but it wasn't, if you see what I mean.

Its never a problem when both tracks are outstanding! I have just always heard strong similarities between the songs.

I know this is going off on a tangent and I probably shouldn't, but after studying the FoNY video over the festive I'm pretty sure your not in it Phil? Is there a story there? Again this has probably been covered before, but as I'm a relatively new poster . . . :?

Ps - I loved the Glasgow show!! You can't be beat boy's!! :)

I'm not in the FoNY promo film because I was, at the time, in University College Hospital London as an in-patient. The film was made in New York in November 1987 during a Pogues US tour: that was the tour for which Joe Strummer stood in as guitarist with about five minutes notice and three minutes tuition from me.
