The gentleman soldier is a good one, The Band Played Waltzing Matilda., but I like the Old Main Drag best.

Difficult Question. I think it's nearly impossible to name just one.

But what about the worst track ever?

Sure. So let me place my question differently: Compared to the greatness of the other songs, is there one song that isn't just as great as the others?

I love all the Pogues songs, and I could play them all over and over and over without getting even remotely fed up off them. but I suppose the one I dnt listen to as much as the others is probably Blue Heaven, on the grounds that its the song with the most skips on my album
The Boy's of the NYPD choir Were Singing Galway Bay, and The Bells were Ringing out for Christmas Day.

I think "Thousands are Sailing" outstrips anything Shane ever wrote, though his output overall is absolutely brilliant & consistent. My favourite Shane song? Probably "Sally Maclennane" ... though that could change daily depending on my mood. I love "Fairytale" but I don't think it's Shane's crowning glory.

I think one of the songs that doesn't get it's fair share of praise is London You're a Lady. The sound of it, the lyrics...brilliant!

If you ask me, I'd say most of the b-sides are better than some of the album tracks. Even the Waiting for Herb era b-sides (or especially...).

Worst song...well...even Pachinko has it's high points. One song that I easily skip over is Fiesta.

I can see why people aren't to keen on this song, at face value but it's very original you can tell he just burlted out pure shite whilest writing it e.g 'Would you kindly kill a doll for me?'. So thats the reason I wouldn't hate it.

Hi,

I think all of Shane's songs and all pogues songs are totally wonderful and pretty much all of the Popes songs as well.

But for me, Shane has the magic, his songs have so much to offer that I cannot tire of them. it is hard to say which is best song and i change my mind each day, but I have got to say that Shane's songs are always beautiful, you listen to an album, awesome, he can make you laugh, you will think what a wonderful way he has of putting things. the energy and all that is wonderful and makes you feel great just for hearing of it.

Another thing i would say about Shane and his songs is that although he may use a few rude worrds, or he may shock a little or show another way of looking at something..he is never stupidly crass or whatever for nothing..it is either for a reason, it may be funny...but it is never horrible..hope i make sense?

You never come away from listening to his songs thinking or feeling negative...it is always good.

I really love the Snake with eyes of garnet right now.

also streams of whisky
