picking apart sally maclennane

Post Sat Apr 09, 2005 10:07 pm

i'm trying to pick apart the vocals parts...i pick songs apart.

ok...it's all shane. but on the chorus. is he double tracking? i can hear a two voices. not necessarilly two different voices, though?

obviously, there's the two "FAR AWAY!" 's each verse...

pay attention to the words "I LIKE" there's someone yelling those words, only...along with shane. from (to think of me returning when i can)

did that make sense? aside from the far aways...shane is double tracking, and i guess spider? screams "I LIKE" also. only two words. it's in there. listen! do it!

well said.

i suppose most people don't pick apart songs like i do. but, yes. it is a great song. one of the first that turned me onto them. keep in mind, whenever you see my name. that i'm a very very very new fan. from jersey. no one here has even heard of them. one friend of mine saw the pogues, and shane twice. but...i'm alone here.

Slightly offtopic, but: "Picking apart Sally MacLennane" sounds really horrible. I thought this might've been about a death metal band covering the Pogues or something in that direction ;-)

While on the topic of Sally Macleanne I was reading over a few websites each with a their own take on the lyrics and I ran into one that hinted that "Jimmy" mentioned didn't actually play the harmonica but was a homosexual prostitute.
The websites reasoning was the line that goes "He soothed the souls of psychos and the men who had the horn and they all looked very happy in the morning" and that a harmonica is also known as a mouth organ which can also be a sexual term.
To me this sounds a little absurd but I was wondering what everyone else's thinking on the subjects was?

I interpret it as homo-sexual but don't know why. Might be of the last verse: "but Jimmy drank until he choked": Or is this just my sick mind???

Maybe it's just me but I don't pick up any homosexual vibes from this song, to me it's just a guy playing a harmonica in pub then drinking himself to death.
