I've been giving this a lot more listening since the remix was released (as part of the 30 Years box set), it's much less crowded than the original!

That's Terry Woods on vocals on those tracks. "Young Ned..." is a co-write with Ron Kavana, and you can hear a more acoustic-ish version of "Young Ned" on the 1991 Ron Kavana album Home Fire, which features a heavy contribution from Terry as well, well worth checking out.

I would also recomend the remastered album. Especially Misty Morning Albert Bridge and USA. It was part of the Pogues 30 box set.

Peace & love was not remastered as far as I'm led to believe.

It is the original recording before Steve Lillywhite brushed it up to disguise Shane's poor input (So they say)

The "Pogues 30" Edition of P & L was was fully re-mixed from the original masters by Steve Lillywhite & James Fearnley. So we can't really call it "the original recording" because all that stuff cluttering the standard mix of the album was part of the "original recording". However, with a little less anxiety about Shane, and perhaps a little less cocaine convincing them that all the overdubs were a good idea, they did leave a lot off this go-around, and the result is actually a pretty good Pogues album.

"Red Roses For Me" was also fully re-mixed for this collection, by long-time Pogues associate Nick Robbins, who also handled all the remastering on this & the previous expanded releases.

Hi
I just rejoined this forum after a number of years to ask pretty much the same question.
I posted this on another more general music forum to which I belong, and got no joy.
So I thought - why not ask the people who might know?

This was my post:
Shane contributes far less than his previous lion's share of the songwriting and sits back to allow the others their turn in the spotlight.
There are no performers credits on the album insert though.
I'm trying to definitively pin down who is singing lead on which songs
Pretty certain that Terry Woods sings all three of his songs (I'm talking about the expanded 2004 edition) and Phil Chevron his two...
And that is Andrew Rankin singing Star of the County Down etc
But what do we reckon?

1 Gridlock - Instrumental
2 White City - Shane
3 Young Ned Of The Hill - Terry
4 Misty Morning, Albert Bridge - Shane
5 Cotton Fields - Andrew?
6 Blue Heaven - Phil
7 Down All The Days - Shane
8 USA - Shane
9 Lorelei Phil (and Kirsty Maccoll)
10 Gartloney Rats - Terry
11 Boat Train - Shane
12 Tombstone - is it Jem? He wrote it but he doesn't usually sing
13 Night Train To Lorca - Shane
14 London You're A Lady - Shane
Bonus Tracks
15 Star Of The County Down - Andrew
16 The Limerick Rake - Shane
17 Train Of Love - Jem? Again, he wrote it. Sounds like Spider on co lead though
18 Everyman Is King - Terry
19 Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah - Shane
20 Honky Tonk Women - Spider

If that is right, and we count co-leads, that is seven different lead vocalists on one album...

5 Cotton Fields - Andrew on original release? Shane lead vocals on the 2013 Remaster. Shane always sang this live. And Andrew always sang The Star of the County Down live

12 Tombstone. Terry Woods

17 Train Of Love - Jem? Yeah I'd say Jem Finer also

Definitely Jem on Train of Love, and I think Darryl on backing Vox on Blue Heaven. I always thought Shane and Spider sang Cotton Fields but could be wrong. Phil can also be heard on Down All The Days. The most varied album in terms of vocals, definitely.

I've always thought this album would have got better reviews if they'd released it as this.

01 Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah.flac
02 White City.flac
03 Young Ned of the Hill.flac
04 Misty Morning, Albert Bridge.flac
05 Cotton Fields.flac
06 The Limerick Rake.flac
07 Down All the Days.flac
08 USA.flac
09 Train of Love.flac
10 Gartloney Rats.flac
11 Boat Train.flac
12 Everyman Is A King.flac
13 Night Train to Lorca.flac
14 London You're A Lady.flac

It's certainly a much more enjoyable listen.

But that's only my opinion ;-)

I'd have been quite surprised if they released it in FLAC. Surely that didn't exist yet. They'd have been in WAV, right? (Well, even WAV is probably newer than 1989. Huh.)

The B-sides from this album are surely a powerful lot and would have made a smoking EP, or an epic double album.

I was referring to the tracklisting. I thought you would have realised that
