1. A Pair Of Brown Eyes (7" version)

Random question... The 7" version is 3.44, the album version is 5.02. The 12-inch version is labeled "Extended Version", is that just the album version or is it another mix?

The 12-inch version is the album version. I always thought the way they were labelled was slightly misleading - it seems to me that the 7" was edited down from the 12"/album version, rather than the 12"/album version being extended up from the 7". If that makes sense.

Right? The "extended version" shoulda been labeled "album version", the 7" version is the one needs identification as an edit / remix.

I would say now cue Mr. Chevron to come in and say something about the confusing decisions of the Brothers Warner, but this was Stiff Records still at this point. Strange.

Well I guess the short answer is that the single was released in March 85 and the album in August, so at the point it was released it was just the 7" and 12" versions. It was only 5 months later that the 12" version became the album version.

Does anybody know if the original recording of "Dark Streets of London" , the one released on the first 7" with "And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" on the b-side, was re-used on Red Roses For Me, or did they do a new take?

Just checked the Carole Clerk's book but it didn't specifically mention this either way, nor did the liner notes to the 2002 Red Roses For Me re-issue, which did include "...Waltzing" as a bonus track, but no alternate version of of "Dark Streets", and it's also not on the box set.

So i'm curious if the 7' has a unique recording of this song or not.

Really? Different to the one on the Box Set (which I don't think is extended)?

I would say it was the non fade out version from Red Roses sessions Oyvind is talking about?

Might be. I have it on a cd with demo versions of Streams of Whiskey, Poor Paddy and Dingle Regatta. And I have an earlier demo too with just Dark Streets of London

I never meant the single (harp sticker) I meant this one below Oyvind.

xx-May-84
"BBC Session - First Single"
BBC Radio 1, London, England
20 min.

Greenland Whale Fisheries / The Auld Triangle / Streams Of Whiskey / Boys From The County Hell / Dark Streets Of London (NON FADE OUT] / The Band Played Waltzing Matilda

This one is a bit of a mystery. The cassette came to me with an original "Pog mo Thoin" harp sticker on the j-card and the tape is marked "BBC Session - First Single". Looks like a John Peel Session. If anyone can supply any more info on this, please let me know.

There's also these

1984 - Unknown Sessions

01. Dark Streets Of London extended version.flac
02. Waltzin Matilda.flac
03. Streams Of Whiskey.flac
04. Poor Paddy.flac
05. Dingle Regatta.flac

1984.xx.xx - Sessions

01 Dark Streets Of London.flac
02 The Auld Triangle.flac
03 Streams Of Whiskey.flac
04 Greenland Whale Fisheries.flac

1984 - First BBC Sessions

01 Greenland Whale Fisheries.flac
02 The Auld Triangle.flac
03 Streams Of Whiskey.flac
04 Boys From The County Hell.flac
05 Dark Streets Of London.flac
06 Waltzing Matilda.flac

And there's another early Dark Streets demo that goes a bit wobbly at the end before it cuts off

Seems there are more BBC sessions than those listed on pogueslive.com.
Could compare them to the coming album.
