Pogue Mahone / Dark Streets 7" editions

I can't add much to the debate other than to say that I think thefinaltaxi is on the right lines regarding the date of the 'coloured label' PM1 release. Me and my mate Nice Tony both bought a copy of that pressing from a record shop in London round about 1988/89 - I can't remember the exact shop but it was something mainstream like HMV or Virgin, and they had plenty of copies. I must admit I've never given it much thought before and assumed they were left over copies of the 1984 pressing, but it makes much more sense for them to be from a later pressing as thefinaltaxi suggests. For what was supposed to be such a rare release it was much easier to get hold of than say the 7" of Boys From The County Hell, which I finally managed to track down at a record fair (complete with off-centre hole so it played wonky!).

It is unlikely to be wikiated for reasons altogether unreasonable and my own. Much more likely it will be content-managed. 'Cause that's been on the to-do list for, like, six years now.

I have all these singles.
The White label copy and Pogue Mahone copy has the same inscriptions in the run-out of the vinyl. orlake, For Luke Kelly and PM1-A on the A-side and orlake and PM1-AA on the other side. They seem to be pressed from the same mould as they are identical.
The white label came in 3 versions.
-White Label PM1
-White Label PM1 with harp sticker.
-White Label PM1 with a sticker with the face of a woman.
Then we have the second pre-stiff pressing with picture label. I also have a picture label pressing with harp sticker.

Just to make it confusing, i have this same imprint, w the green label, PM1-A/PM1-AA, but came in a plain white sleeve - yellowed with age, though the vinyl was like new.

Which i bought on ebay just a couple years ago (cheap enough, so i assumed it was not really any sort of first pressing). The newness of the vinyl, if it's not unique to my copy, seems to suggest that these could be the afore-mentioned "overstock". Esp if there are random/blank sleeves used.

The picture label pressing never had a proper sleeve, it always was a plain white sleeve only (except that some of them had the harp sticker on that white sleeve).

There was no picture sleeve at all. Both, the initial pressing and also the Stiff pressing (under the name "The Pogues") never had one as well.

Just to add my recollections, which are from outside the metropolis of London, where I had no access to Rock On or records for sale at gigs.

I bought DSL in Coventry. Plain sleeve PM1, no stickers, proper label, band called Pogue Mahone on the label. I bought it early on, after hearing it on John Peel. When Boys from the County Hell was released, initial copies came shrink-wrapped with the stiff version of DSL, proper label, band called The Pogues, plain sleeve, no sticker. Well they did in Coventry anyway!

So I may be right that the larger part of this second Pogue Mahone pressing might not have been released until the decline of Stiff Records in 1988.
What do you think? This might explain why in 1988 suddenly regular mailorders had bigger stock of new and unplayed copies of that Pogue Mahone pressing.

The person behind http://www.rockonrecords.com/ sold quite a few of the PM1 picture label pressings in mint condition and did so until recently on musicstack. It seems he had a few boxes left in storage after the store closed. I bought two from him a few years ago. Those copies has never been played.

Hi guys, i've just picked up a copy of this PM1 picture label pressing and having seen it in the flesh so to speak (before i paid 12 euro for it) i also think it's from 1988. The biggest giveaway to say that it is not from 1984 is the font used for Pogue Mahone. The band never used this hand writing type of font until the single release of IISFFGWG. As soon as you see this 7" single, it's so obvious.

A similar font is used on the 1984 Stiff Records pressing of the single. This pressing Stiff BUY 207 is definitely from 1984.
I Also have a PM1 with picture label with the Harp sticker.

The Pogue Mahone one is from 1984, the Pogues one is a little later, when thy signed to Stiff, end of story. I know, I was there and stayed there ever since. stop being all fecking train-spotter about it.

Just wondering, what does a Pogue do when they are not playing on St Patrick's Day?
