Re: New book by Calum Bruce: Hibs and The Pogues, Double A-s

With sweet F all happening around our favourite band, I've just read this again, and have to admit I enjoyed the non-Pogues parts a bit more second time round. However, I do prefer the author's first effort "The Best Night Out In Town" to this one. Revisiting some of the gigs (some I actu...

Re: New book by Calum Bruce: Hibs and The Pogues, Double A-s

Not what I was expecting from this book, as there's not as much Pogues business going on compared to The Best Night out in Town. Having said all that it's a general, brilliant read, and would appeal to a wide audience I think. I'm pissed off that I didn't get one of those record flyer things though...

Re: Mmmm. Whiskey.

Well I'll tell you that I wouldn't be able for that. I don't drink whiskey except in a hot whiskey with a spoon of sugar. However, the cans would be more my style. Sleep the hangover off and save the rest of the whiskey for another day. Actually, I tell a lie. I did once drink whiskey and the resul...

Re: Mmmm. Whiskey.

I received both the big bottle and two miniatures as Christmas presents. Just can't bring myself to crack them open. The bottles themselves are a work of art. You can get pi***d on cheaper products, and still look at the black bottle. Safe in the knowledge that they are there for a really special o...

Re: The Pogues "The Best Night Out In Town".

Brilliant book, a great read. James Fearnley's foreword is superb, setting it up nicely.
My review will follow, for Double A Side, very soon.

Re: NEW PARIS DVD/CD

D'ya know, if they ever gig again I'll hold you to that. We'll raise a glass of Pogues Whiskey to Phil Chevron (and a dozen more besides). If you listen carefully to the live versions of Thousands Are Sailing at this gig (and maybe this is my imagination) I swear Shane replaces "... and dozen ...

Re: NEW PARIS DVD/CD

I think he's referring to Flann O'Brien, writer. I think he says... "And this is a song about how everything comes in 3's, as Flann O'Brien remarked........ many years ago.......the man who discovered money kills" Very good Father. If I'm honest, that's not what I thought he was saying. V...

Re: NEW PARIS DVD/CD

So tempted to watch this marvellous DVD tonight and open me whiskey. This must be one of the absolute best Poguey products ever made.
Every home should have one. Can turn a shit night into a night of magic! The Whiskey will also help things along just nicely.....

Re: Here Comes Everybody - The Story of the Pogues

Totally fantastic stuff, as are most of the Pogues related books. I haven't done the audiobook yet, but it sounds like the next step. All the book reading / listening must be done with a drop of Whiskey, surely. Maybe one day, I will crack that black bottle open.......

Re: Therese Macgowan RIP

My heart goes out to Shane and his family. This is not the place for bickering. Why is it always so important how Shane "looks." We can all speculate. New teeth and back operations are probably a walk in the park for him. But he's just lost his mammy. So sad. Let's not talk about how he F...

Re: Frank Murray

Frank Murray died yesterday, heart-attack, aged 66 http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/obituary/7633110/frank-murray-the-pogues-manager-dies-66 :-( R.I.P. Sad news all round in a short space of time with Shane's mother being tragically taken as well. I met Frank Murray just the once, and I found...
