My first real, paid concert was the 1996 Sex Pistols reunion at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC. I saw the reunited Pogues there about a decade later.

1984 and Swedish metal band Europe. I was only listening to metal as a young teenager. The Pogues played in my hometown the year after but I had never heard about them at the time.

1. Barry Manilow - 1980 or 1981, I think. With me mum.

In 1981 this may have been totally terrible, but today it gives you ironic hipster points, so don't worry.

1977-ish Trooper with openers Zon at Kentville Arena in Kentville, Nova Scotia

Kim was the only one with a license (and a car), so we all piled in to her Galaxie 500 and rawked!

Oh, Frith...this question. Well, time to swallow my pride and answer.

1. Barry Manilow - 1980 or 1981, I think. With me mum.
2. Kansas - 1982 or 1983ish
3. James Brown - probably 1984 or so.

I guess the third time was the charm.

I've never been to a real concert before, well, I've been to a couple of gigs before, but nothing as big as the one I'm going to in August: I am seeing the Pogues! :D So, the first (I guess you could call "real") concert I'm going to will be the Pogues, and I couldn't be happier. Not only are they coming to Norway, but my first real concert experience will be of my favourite band!

Led Zeppelin. Nineteen hundred and seventy-four. From literally the last row back in the old Garden (Boston). It was loud and kind of scary and Robert Plant wasn't wearing any shoes--utterly shoeless.

Mine was the UK Subs at Manchester Polytechnic in about 1980. I was either 12 or 13 at the time.

It was the matinee show. My first jaw dropping moment was that all the crazy lot down the front were spitting none stop at the lead singer, Charlie Harper.
