22nd December's the 10th Anniversary of Joe Strummer's death. I'm currently preparing a show for this. The line up's beginning to read like a who's who of who knew, loved, respected and were even enough to work and play with Joe.
I'm organising it as a fund raiser for Jail Guitar Doors. The venue's booked, acts are confirming and asking to be kept informed, it's lining up to be a festival all on one night. The line-up's still to look slightly incomplete if The Pogues, or perhaps at least 2 or 3 of the pogues aren't on stage over the night.
Please message me for details, it's currently booked for one venue, but we could easily move it to London, and sell out Brixton Academy. Seems to me though that once the corporate big boys get involved, to 'help' the gig/charity out, they all take their cut of the money raised, and that would raise little more for the charity than using the 850 capacity venue I've booked, an hour from London and if we get enough through the door (hahahaha) will refund the minimum 400 booking fee to JGD's. I don't have public liability insurance!
This will be my 4th big gig, this year, in fact ever. I played guitar whilst in Woodhill H.M.P. I wont be the only JGD's graduate there.
Please get back to me Phil, emails probably best.
Cheers!!

Hi bang, bang (if that really is your name),
Brilliant to hear at first hand from someone who has benefitted from JGD.
I'd like to pass on the message to the others so that they can make individual decisions on this, as I know I will be unable to do something myself on that date. As you probably know, the band is doing Strummerville this year and, while that is not, in itself, a reason not to do your show, it does mean you are unlikely to get a full compliment of Pogues, though you may well attract the support of some of them. For those of us who live in Ireland, December 22 is perilously close to not getting home for Christmas, which did actually happen three years ago when the weather grounded so many flights. In addition, we are considering the possibility of our own show(s) at the Academy earlier that month.
Anyway, let's see what sort of a posse we can rustle up. As you are registered on the forum, you can use the PM button on here [left, below my pic] to let me have your email addy so that I may distribute your request to the other guys.
