I was fortuante enough to make the show from the states. I was on vacation in England wiht family and was lucky to score tickets the day before and make the show. Was about a 2 hour train ride from where we were staying near Heathrow but well worth it.. Great show.. Loved the buzzcocks. Hadnt seen them in years but they were awesome although Petes vocals could have been turned up a smidgeon. Hoepfully this was not the last from either of these great bands. Thank you

I know as a band you can only use what your given but I'm always interested by the technical end of things as well at gigs.! I was just curious about it all. I spoke with dave guerin quite a few times in brixton. That's a man that seems to love the job!

It was not a limit that seemed to surprise Paul Scully, so I imagine it's not unusual. I have a feeling that one or two limits imposed by local councils in Germany may be lower, however.

Decibel limits for indoors shows, when they exist, tend to be more flexible.

So at an outdoor gig, where might the db's get assessed? At the mixing board? Outside the venue?

Good question. Common sense would seem to place the decibelometer (?) close to the mixing desk, but we're talking local councils here, so common sense may or may not be a factor.

Spin27 wrote:Thanks for your speedy reply Phil. I actually spoke to Paul after the gig and he was kind enough to give me his setlist. He pointed out that different locations in the given venue that night had different qualities. He seemed quite happy with what he had at his disposal that night. Seemed quite a nice guy and willing to chat with anyone wanting a word which is nice.

I've looked at some vids from the gig and they seem to have great sound levels on them. I'm a bit of a sucker for being up front, as I think if your going to the effort of crossing ponds to see a band you should be up close and personal. I also like to have a good view of all on stage and take everything in. Otherwise I feel I might as well be at home.

I reckon back towards the middle or in that general area was prob the best area to hear maximum sound. But I was just curious to get your opinion.
Thanks once again for a great nights entertainment and I hope ye had a good one too.

Hope to see ye soon and best regards.

Incidentally, Paul tells me there was a 94db limit at Greenwich, imposed by the council.

Did you ever meet someone front  of stsge at a pouges gig who literally gave you  whisky then put you on a breeze to catmandu?

Great gig, after 27years, one of the best. Just great.

To the girl in front of shane handing round the whisky and coke, cheers.

Firstly, my apologies for this "tired and emotional" post which I blame entirely on modern technology and the ability to access the internet from a mobile phone, not allowing for a cooling off period. I hope I haven't blotted my copy book so soon.

Saturday night was superb. I was in the company of 10 people attending their first Pogues gig and they were all equally impressed by the performance (I caught one guy whistling "Dirty Old Town" at work today).

I came across a blog review of saturdays show, hope it's ok to post here. The first response to it delighted me no end.

Just goes to show, it's never too late to gain new admirerers. Please, please keep up the good work.
