I saw the Mary Wallopers twice last week. They were on brilliant form both times. The crowd at Liverpool was raucous and a lot of fun, so that one just edges it. Impromptu chorus of Fuck the Tories by the whole room seemed to impress the band greatly.

I've seen her up close as a hanger on of a former client and former co-worker.

The small town (and a surrounding one) I grew up in produced some well-known bands.
To varying degrees of lasting fame.
Also produced Freddie Mercury's current substitute in Queen.
(I worked with a boring-ass-bitch who babysat him as a kid and I'm just glad he made it thru that torture).

She starfucked her way to the bottom.

There were physical fights between bandmates about the chick wanting to play on stage with her more famous, touring boyfriend's band.

So.... there's that.

The problem with hanging around a racist idiot is people are gonna think you subscribe to their bullshit, so I guess she finally found some who will both excuse and ignore her overtly racist response to becoming a crime victim in downtown LA.

Neither San Diego nor Los Angeles needs a racist fame-chaser like that.

Ya' hate immigrants but wanna be in a Ska band? Fuck all the way off.

The people we knew in common were lovely, generous, crazy as hell. A good time.
They spent time in Mexico, in the same area where a siblings was raised since one of my parents lived in Mexico full-time for a number of years. Us older kids would spend time there in the Summer or holidays.

She ain't a fan of all that.
That little troll always gave me the creeps.

I predict a country album in her future after this attempt at fame fails.

Someone with her political beliefs and racist lean never belonged in California and the small suburb of San Diego (we both shared for a time) never wanted her bullshit either.

Garbage human.
A racist poser.

How are you gonna be racist as hell and pick that genre of music to attempt your third go-around at fame?

She speaks on her hatred of immigrants loud and proud.

I've several of their CDs. I feel like they very much appeal to the sensibilities of your average Pogues fan. I'm sorry to hear they're packing it on touring.

What's up Medusans! Long time no see.
Summers nearly gone but got to see the Boss last Sunday at MetLife Stadium play what I believe was his best setlist of the tour. Then he announced an illness and postponed all his other September dates.

Another notable show this summer was Frank Turner opening for The Interupters at the Stone Pony. If you've never heard The Interrupters they're kinda SKA,Rock. Lead singer Aimee Allen's got a great voice and energy.
Of course you know Frank Turners just awesome.

In a wild turn of events, the Remain In Light tour was just announced at a local venue for next Thurs... 8 day's notice?! Even better, there's some LiveNation promo this week and I managed a random code and got tickets for about 1/3 of face value - a flat $25 each (apparently this is the case for a whole host of shows at the moment).

I can't say enough about how great this concert was. If you like Talking Heads and this show comes to town, you should go. The backing band, "Cool Cool Cool", is made up of 9 former members of Brooklyn "powerfunk" ensemble Turkuaz. They played an opening set, and gave strong cheesy, party-cruise vibes - right down to their Hawaiian shirts. Like, if you were on one of those afternoon booze cruises, full of young urban professionals, with one of the women throwing up over the side while her girlfriend holds her hair, you might cynically stand at the back sipping your umbrella drink and say "This band is SO CHEESY, but DAMN they're TIGHT. If only they'd play some good songs." In that sense, they were a good stand-in for Tom Tom Club.

When they returned to stage, in less silly attire, they were joined by Jerry Harrison & Adrian Belew, and blew the roof off with a set full of hits and deep tracks that roughly resembled the 1981 Remain In Light Tour setlist. Many people got solos and took a turn at lead vocals, and one of the saxophone players proved to be a highly dramatic personality who was perfect karaoke stand-in for some of David Byrne's more bombastic performances. The over-driven bass sounded like duck farts, and the keyboard tones were strictly 1981 (there were frequently 3 going at once, including one often played by the left hand of the trumpet player while he played trumpet with his right hand), and us old men danced joyfully.

There’s only a wee pair of them now, though.

Can go see them with a lot of Massholes this Halloween.

With every band under the Sun seemingly out touring it does feel very deja vu 1980-1992.
