This bootleg was the last Pogues bootleg I ever bought.
I had only just bought a computer and tend to find other ways of finding live shows since.
It is of a good quality as with most of the Japan sold boots, but still boot quality.
If you want any good quality Pogues music you only have to buy the box set or remastersed cds.
But wish you get hold of more live shows through offical sources, Ithink there is a market all be it a limted one.
This boot was on thr ftp last time I looked so you do not have to pay or trade with anyone to get hold of copy to listen to it.
It is worth a listen .

I've just spotted this item on ebay, and was about to make a bid (10 mins left), but didn't know this CD was a bootleg - which in my opinion, you don't buy, just trade)

Wait. That wasn't a peasant that said that. And I'm not self-righteous, either. 0 for 2 on that one I guess. And I sat up all night trying to outwit you. I gotta lay off the percocet...maybe...

Bootlegs in Japan are very professionally done Eric.. and there are shops that sell just bootlegs. I have been in a shop that only has Stones bootlegs - well over 1000 of them! As far as the limited press runs - well I don't think they are that limited to start with. The label you mentioned, BTZ - well they have ones that aren't numbered in Japan. The only ones that I see numbered are the ones going to foreign buyers.
Copyrights are put on the sleeves for the Japanese buyers who are very particular in what they buy. It has to look authentic for them to buy it, and the makers know that so they try to look as official as possible. That being said, alot of the boots that are coming out nowadays are only cdrs with Printed sleeves.
Another thing about the boots in Japan - there are no Japanese bands that are being bootlegged here. The coppers would come down on that! But since the bands aren't here to put pressure on the government to do something about it, it isn't going to stop anytime soon. I wonder why the labels themselves aren't trying harder?

It was unauthorized Eric, surely that much is obvious? What makes you think a bootlegger will not try to add class or faux-legitimacy to his product by printing the standard copyright warnings? Who'll stop him?

My wife writes, now she is trying to publish her new book and i will be very angry if people would preffer to photocopy it and sell for a few pence or cents instead of buying it.

Bootlegs and downloads destroy art

Thanks, For the reasons you mention I don´t buy bootlegs anymore but I do trade. I think most Pogues bootlegs are taped by fans and unfortunately not so good quality so they are not worth selling. Comercial ones are rare compare to the likes of Springsteen, U2 etc.

See you in Gothenburg :D

It is packaged fairly well, so it looks like a professional job. It has Pogue Mahone all over it, and says on the back: " All rights of teh producer and of the owner of the work reproduced reserved. Unauthorized copying, hiring, renting, public performance and broadcasting of this recording prohibited."

It is put out by Back to Zero. So my question is: is it authorized by the Pogues, or their record company? If not, then why the copyright statement if it is an illegal bootleg?

Also, since I have only listened to a few tracks from Streams of Whiskey, could someone who knows better tell me if this is a decent recording compared to other bootlegs mentioned on this forum. Thanks!

I've never listened to Lullaby Of The Chocolate City but I can state unequivocally it is superior in all respects to Streams Of Whiskey

What´s your opinion about bootlegs? I understand you don´t like commercial bootlegs since other people are making money on your music but do you think it´s ok when fans are trading for collecting without trying to make a profit?

I cannot endorse any medium which uses my work without payment, just as a matter of principle. That said, I understand why bootlegs exist and have some myself. When confined to small pressings, I don't see how they do much harm.
