Glastonbury 1986

Post by bultjurbuch Sun May 20, 2012 10:26 pm

never been to reading, but know for a fact that it aint a patch on glastonbury.

you dont camp on the same site as the music seperate field to all the music, youve got fck all chance of blagging it, and its full of spotty indie types.

by the way, on for the rotheram game i take it ?

I've got a bootleg of The Waterboys at Glastonbury '86- absolutely amazing gig. Never heard the Pogues bootleg though.

I've got a tape of that Glastonbury '86 show and it is excellent. A few of my mates were there. I've also got a tape somewhere of a performance on Radio 1 on a Saturday afternoon in Summer of '85. Repeal of the licensing laws, Streams of whiskey and A Pair of Brown eyes.

Going to Glastonbury this year - for the last time - though I have said that before. Probably won't be down the front - though then again!

I think it was £23 then - £150 this year!

Travellers on site made it interesting.

Went 3 years ago and my company car was one of the worst vehicles in the car park! Jags BMW's etc.

Both the Waterboys and Madness are there again this year so you'll be able to reminisce! I'll be there too, looking forward to seeing the Waterboys.

Also of interest to us Pogues people, The Men They Couldn't Hang and The Saw Doctors are also on the bill. Oh and the superb Sharon Shannon.

I'm still trying to work which member of the band shouts "and can you stop throwing full cans of beer as well" before one song... could it be Mr C himself?

Um, well, I tend not to have great recall of these big shindigs. They make me dizzy and, as often as not, lost. My records tell me we played the main stage at 2pm on June 21, 1985 and the 1986 programme is less helpful in terms of bill and billing, but I seem to remember we were again on the main stage. At least one of those years was excessively muddy. If you're going to Glastonbury, abandon all vanity.

I'm not sure, but I think my sister may have been at that.

I know she was at Glastonbury sometime in the mid eighties and sometime before I first went to The Reading Festival which was 1987, could have been that one.

Well according to http://www.pogueslive.com

20-Jun-86
Glastonbury CND Festival, Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset, England

15 min. Bootleg Video
A Pistol For Paddy Garcia (beginning missing) / The Sick Bed Of Cuchulainn / Streams Of Whiskey / Billy's Bones / Repeal Of The Licensing Laws / Transmetropolitan / Sally MacLennane

Audience camcorder. It would appear that these are the only songs which were recorded on video, however the full show survives on audio (see Pogues Bootlegs 1986). Although the video of this show has 18-Jun-86 on screen, the correct date is 20-Jun-86 (taken from the Official Festival Programme).
