Those who know about the contents of MissWalshy's pocket will not be surprised at this.

Maybe it is because they are recorded this way sometimes...:-)
But there are some great sounding bootlegs - but honestly, there is not overly lot of them.

Quality is definitely an issue, but there are some great sounding ones out there, and also some great performances. IMHO bootlegs serve a definite purpose - there's some great tracks like 'Goodnight Irene' that we'd never get to hear without them, and up until the release of the Ultimate Collection the only way to hear you singing 'Thousands of Sailors' was on boots (for example). Personally in terms of quality and I guess ethos I prefer fan-circulated CD-Rs (or tapes, way back when) to commercial boots. If you ever want to hear a few decent ones all the way through, let me know!

Neither for them nor agin them really. Except Streams of Whiskey. They seem to vary wildly in quality, don't they? I've never heard one all the way through.

Bootlegs - what do the band think?

Post by Kilmichael Fri Jan 20, 2006 12:56 pm

I was just wondering if Mr C or any of the other band members might care to share their views on Pogues bootlegs, both commercial 'releases' and the many CD-Rs that circulate around fans? I know in the past Phil and others have been very critical of 'Streams of Whiskey', but I kind of got the impression that was more because it was being passed off as a legitimate release.

Are you for 'em or agin 'em?
