There exists a set of multitrack tapes of a Pogues/Strummer gig in London in December 1991 which, one of these days, I will get around to mixing. Meanwhile, three of the tracks, previously used on b sides, are available on a Pogues box set called Just Look Them Straight In The Eye and Say Pogue Mahone! along with two mixes of "Afro-Cuban BeBop". We never did any radio broadcasts and as far as I know, all existing bootlegs, like the National Stadium, Dublin, are audience recordings, but there are Medusans better qualified in this department than myself who may be able to give you a definitive answer.

Hey Mr. Chevron - any word on this? Are the tapes usable? Not trying to be a gimme gimme fanboy about this, but I'm wondering if it's releasable. This year would be the year to do it, I'd think, since it's the 10th anniversary of Joe's death and there's talks of a book and solo boxset in the works, and it'd fit in nicely with the marketing blitz.

Ah yes, the tapes are more than usable, but I can locate no great enthusiasm for the project among my colleagues and we do, after all, have our own live album/DVD to record this year. Pogues tend to steer clear of marketing blitzes but I'd like to see the Pogues/Strummer live album available someday.

Listened to an audience recording of the gig with Joe at Cambridge Corn Exchange Nov 91 (one I was at, actually) in the car today. Man, I would love to hear a soundboard recording of 'Straight To Hell' from that tour - you did an awesome version of it with Joe.

07-Jun-87
The Session, Dublin (RTE One, Ireland)
50 min.
with Joe Strummer and The Dubliners

The Pogues: Streams Of Whiskey / The Ballinalee / If I Should Fall From Grace With God
The Dubliners (without the Pogues): Ballad Of St. Anne's Reel / Don't Get Married / The Dubliners Fancy / Dubliners
The Pogues again (with Joe Strummer): I Fought The Law (Joe Strummer on vocals - Shane MacGowan backup)/ London Calling (Joe Strummer on vocals - Shane MacGowan backup) / Lullaby Of London / South Australia / Repeal Of The Licensing Laws / Turkish Song Of The Damned / The Irish Rover (with the Dubliners and Joe Strummer)

Most audio versions are missing "Streams Of Whiskey" and the Dubliner's set. Also circulates on video (see Videos).

I Fought The Law and London Calling from this show were released on The Clash "Death or Glory" Bootleg LP by Cenobite (catalogue number CR015). The same two songs also appear on the B side of "London Calling", a 7 inch limited edition (500 copies) white vinyl bootleg which was commercially released in 2003 by an unknown manufacturer (catalogue number POG001AB). The A side features London Calling from The Town & Country Club, London 17-Mar-88.

Ah. Shame there's little interest. The bootlegs for those shows suggest a fantastic live album. Joe was really into those shows, or at least it sounds that way as a listener.

P.S. You doing one or two nights for the live DVD? It seems like Shane is more prone to fuck ups when the pressure is on.

There exists a set of multitrack tapes of a Pogues/Strummer gig in London in December 1991 which, one of these days, I will get around to mixing. I made that bootleg. They're from the popular bootlegs, SF probably. Not even the best available source, I'd bet. I made it 6 years ago, when it was a lot harder to track source lineage and bitrate and whatnot. I'd go to dimeadozen to find lossless versions of those shows.
