"Wow I fell into this and I am wondering if it is the same Sons of the Desert that used to play here in Montreal in the 80's... If memory serves me correct they were fronted by a funky curly haired female singer named Niomi, I seem to remember a song called "best things". I realize that this topic did not generate much attention. If it is the same band, I have seen them a couple of times and use to like them."

Hey all, It's Naomi from Sons of the Desert (Montreal) and no we never played with the Pogues, BUT we are having a reunion show (25 years) in Montreal December 20th 2012 at Sala Rossa. Bab is opening for us. Check out http://reverbnation.com/sonsofthedesert and also on facebook.

Hi Pogart, and do you remember the episode with Frank Murray and Joey Cashman as mentioned in Carol Clerk’s book about the Pogues and quoted a few posts up in this thread? :)

The Pogues were supported by Sons Of The Desert who played "rollicking good-time ballroom mini-blitzes" and were briefly co-managed by Frank Murray and Joey Cashman. "I left them in the office one day with Joey," remembers Frank. "When I came back, he’d kicked them out. He’d done the right thing." (p. 349)

Wow 2 lines, not bad for a "small" group from Montreal. :D They were kind of big here at the time, good following, good shows...wow that was like almost 20 years ago...Thanks
