The Mero in the title is the" Maro" I believe, the name given to the cinema in Mary street, at the junction with Wolfe Tone Street. The PMPA insurance company which failed used it as an office, after its cinema days were oover. I never heard it called anything else. If the guy had six pence he'd get a good seat, the cheap ones were the "fourpenny woodeners" or wooden benches. The other geographic references tend to confirm this. Kieran Fagan,

I feel we should all get credit for course work!

Thank you, Philip.

I'll never look at some of our vacation photos the same way again. I used to think of the needle as an engineering marvel.

Not that I've ever seen in the world of architecture, Philip. But this raises the hoary old question - are the works of man 'outside' of nature, or merely a part (albeit a dysfunctional one) of it?

Look, it's quite normal to have a dysfunctional phallic symbol every now and again, even for Dublin. Especially after a long night of drinking.

I'm not 100% sure that this applies here, but the Cisco Kid is a bandit character. When I was a kid in the '70s, there was an old black-and-white TV show version of The Cisco Kid that aired in the afternoons on some American TV channels.

In the "Family Way" means Pregnant! Thus he means if mary is pregnant she should blame Somebody else "the cisco kid" and not him !

Any chance the Pogues could do a number? I liked their take on County Down.

I'd guess Mary was at the movies, enjoying a matineé with her beau, whilst the said Cisco Kid was onscreen.... I love this song by the way. I learned it from a Aussie singer, Judy Pinder. Another great Pete St. John number...... :)
