I heard on Mike Hardings Folk Programme on Radio 2 last night that legendary folk singer Mike Waterson passed away earlier the same day.Mike was a very talented performer,a very underrated songwriter who along with his sister Lal,wrote several great songs, their 1972 album 'Bright Phoebus' was and still is an outstanding album. The Watersons were very much a part of my growing up,they were based in Hull, not far from where i was born,i met Mike along with his sisters Lal and Norma as well as Martin Carthy on several occasions, they once gave me a lift to a gig in Leeds over 20 years ago,Billy Bragg was part of that line up then, standing in for Martin Carthy during one of his solo tours.RIP Mike, thanks for those memories.
