While not exactly a cover of a Pogues song, Bruce did a cover of "Jesse James" a few years ago, something the Pogues covered fairly early in their careers (Spider on vocals).


Also not exactly a cover, but I saw a youtube of Gogol Bordello playing "Dirty Old Town" in Dublin. I linked it ... I think its in the downloadable versions of Pogues songs thread.


ETA: As regards the title of the thread, I think I would have died of love if Johnny Cash would've done "A Pair Of Brown Eyes".

Well, he had big hits with terrible covers of Tom Wait's Downtown Train and Robbie Robertson's Broken Arrow, so why not ruin another?

Um, sorry, guess i'm not a Rod Stewart fan! But you're right, there would be some symmetry there. I wonder if he even knows what a Pogue is?

this maybe a very silly question, have some mercy as it is from a non-native speaker,
but what exactly is the question:
what band would I like to hear do a Pogues cover?
or what band would I like to hear Pogues do a cover of?

as to the first, it would be nice to hear Brucy Springsteen or Gogol Bordello give their take on a Pogues song,
and as to the second, the reverse would be nice too

Don't know if this topic has come up before, but stuck in my head off & on over the last year is Tom Waits doing "The Old Main Drag", piano-ballad style. And it's sweeeeet.
