FYI :mexican music with accordion is referred to as 'banda' and another style is 'norteno'. a favorite is one called "tigeres del norte". mariachi mostly never has accordions. mariachi has alot of trumpets and guitars with very ornate costumes and big wide hats. all others wear cowboy hats. but alll wear matching outfits. many many different styles in mexican music. by the way, both my parents are from guadalajara--and go figure---i dig irish music....... :D

Mariachi music has some incredible accordian music in it. Real astounding musicianship. Unfortunately I have little patience for the oompa quality of a lot of it, and not speaking the language really limits their lyrical appeal to me.

only in restaurants round here but i have a pretty wide eclesctic taste for anything with a bit of fire
Along a similar vein(my missus thought some of his stuff sounded mexican)
Manu Chao is relatively unheard of in England but i understand massive in Europe .dont know about America .

La Bamba is another song by Trad (in this case sometimes referred to as "Mexican Trad."). Los Lobos did a competant cover of it in the style of Richie Valens (appropriate since it was done for the movie La Bomba, a biography/fictional telling of Richie Valens' life).

Depends on what you're looking for. How Will The Wolf Survive is a classic. Colossal Head is good. Both are from different ends of a greater than 20 year career so together would give you a good idea of how their sound evolved.

Personally I enjoy their more experimental stuff a bit more. The Latin Playboys side project has produced some entertaining experimental stuff. Not nearly as wide an appeal as their Los Lobos offerings though.
