There's a great band called mutiny that I'm pretty sure are from Melbourne...Not a Pogues copver band, but similar sort of fare - they do it well enough to not be labelled plagiarists...They had a great release in, um, probably around 200 that was called bag of oats (I think, anyway!) I think they're playing again in the next few months - keep yr eyes peeled! Hope this was of some help. :)

sash, are you a fan of Mick Thomas at all? he used to live in Melbourne when Weddings, Parties, Anything were going but has now moved to Victoria i think.
I'm sure you'll have come across him, but if not please do check him out. He is solo now, and continues to write and perform some of the most amazing, heartfelt music i've ever heard.

cant help you on the pogues front i'm afraid though, sorry :D

AUSTRALIAN COVER BANDS... MELBOURNE?

Post by sash Mon Jan 02, 2006 3:33 am

i haven't yet read through all the posts here, but does anybody know of any australian pogues cover/tribute bands? particularly in Melbourne?

are there any melbournians interested in playing pogues songs and traditional irish/folk music?

i'm not looking to start a tribute band... tribute bands are usually embarrassing to watch... but i'd love to get together with other fans to play the pogues' music... and to drink, obviously.

post back here if anyone's heard of anything

thanks
