This is the better of Calum Bruce's two books. I just had to tell you.

Personally I rate this one, James Fearnley's and Carol Clerk's excellent "Kiss My Arse" as the best.
I just wish there were some more. Spider Stacy would surely be an ideal candidate to write his memoirs.
I think we'd all just love that.

I'd rather Spider give us a new album! The one he started years back or a new one with The Lost Bayou Ramblers, i wouldn't be fussy which.

Brilliant book, a great read. James Fearnley's foreword is superb, setting it up nicely.
My review will follow, for Double A Side, very soon.

The Best Night Out In Town is again available, in the "normal" ordering way on Amazon, albeit after a few stocking (well it is Christmas) problems.
Nice to know that it's still wanted after all this time. Hope everyone has a great Christmas, and a New Year with some Pogues gigs to go to. It's a great excuse to drink far far too much...........

Here Comes Everybody still readily available, does anyone know another avenue to get a couple of copies of The best night out in town, apart from Amazon. Can't do Nancy Whiskey....fucking rotten stuff.....
Happy Christmas your arse to everyone who contributes to this Forum.

Have you tried clicking on the used and new feature on Amazon?

I've just looked there and there are quite a few copies available.

Failing that, try sending Callum a PM and ask him.

Thanks Heather. Sometimes the answer is staring you in the face. And sometimes I need someone like you to point this out!
I've been in touch with Calum Bruce and he was very accommodating and helpful.
I'm not a frequent contributor on this forum. But I really enjoy reading it.
I very much miss P.Chevron's posts, he was very generous to the fans' cause.
By what I've read, you will miss him more than most. Happy Christmas Heather.

Hey Hennybhoy, the website for The Best Night Out In Town is indeed no more. It was only going to be for one year after the book's release, and that time has come and gone. I must admit that I miss the odd comment I received on the blog, but it's time to move on. We need more Pogues shows, then who knows, I might be writing about you, and the other members of The German branch of The Pogues Supporters Club.......

Not being a Pogues fan I thought I thought I would check out the music that Calum talks about in his book, and in particular the album "if I should fall from grace with god" and the track "rainy night in soho", the latter is now a firm favourite on my play list its quiet simply brilliant. The album also is fantastic and was surprised how many tracks I recognised. I am now exploring more albums from the group and its safe to say "A new fan" is born.
Thanks for a great book Calum and to introducing me to the pogues

Thanks for that Gary the Gooner. If the book made you check out the magical music of The Pogues, then that's just brilliant. Stick with it, there's lots more to discover, including a mention of your beloved Arsenal on the album "Rum, Sodomy & The Lash" ....see if you can find it. Mind you, a top geezer that I met last year at the Summer shows, will not be happy that we are discussing ANYTHING to do with The Gunners. John Carey will tell you that Tottenham are also mentioned on RS&TL.

Hennybhoy wrote:Hi Calum,

just received my copy of your new Hard Cover Edition of your great book "The best night out in town". Absolutely amazing that me and my friends made it in your new "photo section" in the Hard cover Version, can't believe that we are part of your book now. Was a pleasure to meet you and hopefully we'll meet again this Christmas!

Slainte from Germany,

Hendrik

Hendrik. Was a pleasure for me also to meet "The German branch" and I'm glad that you like the photo in the hard cover edition. You guys made the night in O'Shea's a very "colourful" occasion. Let's just hope that we have some more Pogues shows to meet at, and tell stories about afterwards.

Could do with 2 hard cover copies of this book, need them for presents for friends that I've actually managed to introduce to the delight, that is, listening to The Pogues.
The best night out in town website has "expired" ?? and the only place advertising the hard back edition is Waterstones, but when you try to order, it comes up as unavailable?
Does anyone know if James Fearnley's book came out in a hard back edition with any extras as such?
Wish there was something in the way of a tour or summer festivals coming up, but it appears not. Reading the books really gets you in the mood for a Pogues show. Everyone I speak to says that it's over. I F'in well hope not.
