Of course, it's a "cliché" or a stereotype when it comes to the Pogues and especially to his leader but maybe the "cliché" or the stereotype doesn't come from nowhere, Fact is the only thing you noticed about this review was about alcohol when really, the most part has nothing to do about it. Somehow, in my very modest opinion, it's interesting to ask yourself why. You know, sometimes, between the journalists and the public, this is a very pervert relationship like journalists talk very (too) much about the public is fascinating by... Meaning by that, journalists don't always have ALL the blame.

And the second part : http://rocknroll.blog.leparisien.fr/arc ... art-2.html

You're not dreaming, it snowed on L'Olympia on Wednesday night. And he also smoked a lot in the room, who had decided to follow Shane MacGowan and the letter to reauthorize smoking in a public place. It is punk or you do not ... To return to the music after "The body of an american", which marks the halfway point of the gig, the Pogues are the only single from the album "Peace and love", "Young Ned of the Hill" and "Boys from the county hell ", another oldie that has not aged as" Dirty old town "classic of classics group sung by the entire audience - which gives it a pretty impressive power - and" the sick bed of Cuchulainn "crazy jitter" Rum sodomy and the lash "which concludes the first part of the concert exciting way. Shane MacGowan send kisses, "thank you very much", he launches a viewer I do not know what projection. "He is not crazy, I'm an idiot," he answers in French.

Shane MacGowan send kisses, "thank you very much", he launches a viewer I do not know what projection. "He is not crazy, I'm an idiot," he answers in French.

After a few minutes of false suspense, the first reminder is masterful. Two more great songs from "Rum sodomy and the lash", "Sally MacLennane" and "A rainy night in Soho". Full communion between the audience and the band, whose members succeed to the microphone to thank the "Paris and Parisian" screaming as loud as the Dubliners. Guaranteed thrill in the pit but on stage, where Shane MacGowan sends kisses again for "The Irish Rover" classic repertoire Irish and decidedly under the evening, already included in the first part by young Alsatians The Moorings . Unbridled, accordionist James Fearnley is again an incredible performance, throwing himself on the ground and throwing his mighty instrument over his head

The second recall is coming along, so much so that many viewers do not believe and go. Too bad for them, the final anthology. They will also miss "The star of the county down" the time "Peace of love", "Poor Paddy", "Red roses for me", but especially the last two highlights of the evening. First "Fairytale of New York", a duet with Kirsty MacColl not like the original, but with no less charming Ella Finer, who is none other than the daughter of James Finer banjo player. The song becomes even more magic and emotion, when a shower of snow, punk heavenly MacGowan leads Ella in a slow and gentle touching.

But a Pogues concert - what punk was born in North London in the first name "Pogue Mahone" (I leave you the pleasure to find translations flowers ...) - can not end like this. And it was under a rain of confetti this time that Shane MacGowan and alcoholics, forgiveness acolytes embark on one last "Fiesta", which was the jig at any Olympia. After two hours of concert, the atmosphere is crazy. Spider spent the rest of the song trying to pierce his tanbourin with his head, which he did. Shane imitate successfully. Spider then grabbed a guitar and as Joe Strummer on the famous cover of "London calling" (The Clash, really!) Explodes onto the stage at the Olympia (proof below) before finally leaving under shouts and applause of fans rampaging. As the headline wisely Inrockuptibles recently Pogues not dead!

Ah, last but not least, if you have not been to the fiesta and if this modest two chronic put you in suspense, do not worry, both concerts were filmed for a CD and DVD to be released November 12 Polydor / Universal, with a collector's edition will include a passage in the emission Pogues Children mythical rock in 1986, many unpublished photos of their careers and texts signed Siobban Mac Gowan and Ken Bruen. You can already pre-order from your favorite creamer. And shhh, do not repeat it, but the producers of the show would like the province to also celebrate the return of the Pogues. They work tour hexagonal. So wish them good luck.

Shane MacGowan can do the V for victory sign as he left the scene of Olympia Wednesday night at the end of the second and last time he gave in Paris. He miraculously singer, musicians Pogues, the French producer of the show, BenjiProd all won their bet: to celebrate success in Paris in 2012 the 30th anniversary of this major Irish band of the 80s and 90s. They even did better than revive the forties and fifties nostalgia from all over Europe and the Celtic nation. They managed two nights during in a complete Olympia for ages and warm like a pub in Kilkenny, a very very big fiesta. To make a turn pale with envy Patrick Sébastien (note: that, yes, he used the song "Fiesta" as one of its generic variety shows).

When three years ago, the two patterns BenjiProd, show producers based near Avignon (which turns the particular Commitments and Dubliners) and especially fans of the first of the Pogues, had this rash but brilliant idea meet the group at the time of his thirty-year career, which is more in France, however, have not found many allies. Suffice to say that on Wednesday evening they savored their success by looking at the Olympia standing to cheer in unison and resume Pogues "Ditry old town", but also a warm welcome to their foals, carefully selected for their first night part two , The Moorings, Strasbourg youth who are natives of Cork that there would only fire.

Two words on this excellent group that had the opportunity to form his semi-acoustic. They only had a half hour to get their message across, but they managed to warm the spirits and legs with their Celtic folk-rock, not so far from the spirit of hard punk of Flogging Molly (whose they also repeat a title). The five musicians, led by a bearded singer physics old sea dog, a pretty redhead violin and flute and a banjo player to look very close to Paul Simonon (The Clash bassist) have also presented several tracks from their recent album, "Pints and glory" (is it necessary to translate?), whose very effective compositions like "Away from home" and again as "The Irish rover", including traditional Irish popularized by the Dubliners. Hopefully they repasseront only by Paris so we can judge them on a whole set ...

Speaking of the Clash, it is precisely they who have made the public wait for the intermission, when he was not at the bar to run the beer pumps with timeless pearls as "Magnificent sevent" "The call up" and "Straight to hell". But traditional twenty minutes turned into fifty minutes and the fans began to worry about not seeing their heroes. We know the fragile health of Shane MacGowan, the fruit of thirty years of various addictions, and his propensity to lose before an appointment. But at 21:20, the light was finally extinguished and eight Pogues returned one after the other ... Shane MacGowan came last, suit and tie on white shirt, sunglasses, gait broken, bent back, the rounded frame, with a cigarette in one hand and in the other it was to be a full glass of gin.

Twenty years they had not seen the full Paris! Inevitably, the Pogues have aged, more or less, more or less. Some wear the goat with charm, others hide their baldness as caps old school Spider flutist dry may be the one who has changed the least. But their music, it has not aged. When they attack "Streams of Whiskey", their first album "Red roses for me" 1984, and "If I shoulds fall from grace with god", from the album of the same name, the motor restarts smoothly stroke and unique mixture of punk and Celtic roots redone English effect immediately. Especially as a pleasant surprise, MacGowan is with them with us.

Even if his body now operates diesel, although his voice broken old hooligan is a bit slurred, the potion has a magical effect on him. Shane MacGowan looks happy in the midst of his friends and thanks in French as her screams cowboy punk concluding pieces pêchus are most pleased to hear. The group chained in a very festive atmosphere "Broad Majestic Shannon" by "If I fall ... shoulds" and "Greenland Whale Fisheries" "Red roses for me" before spinning a good old blow blues " A pair of brown eyes ", heartbreaking ballad torn and remains one of their greatest hits.

Shane MacGowan disappears to leave the microphone for Tracy Spider "Tuesday morning", as very clashien that he wrote for the album "Waiting for herb" in 1993, and again for "Kitty" ("Red Roses" ) and "The Sunnyside of the Street", which is the only track on the album "Hell's Ditch" in 1990. It is always a pleasure to hear "Thousands are sailing" and "Lullaby of London", two new excerpts from "If I fall shoulds" (which will be celebrated as the first two albums) but it is "Body of year american "just give a good boost to the room. The Pogues are then joined by a horn section, a small but sturdy, which wraps the title in a well-rounded and warm jacket. In the pit in the stands, half standing, the public is already swimming. And we are only half of the concert ...

It promises for the future ...

Google Comedy Translation:

"The men of Shane Mc Gowan completed the Olympia on 11 and 12 September. Another good reason to believe that God is Irish.

Back after 20 years of abstinence, forgiveness, lack of French scene, the Pogues with Shane MacGowan just give two concerts on Tuesday and Wednesday in the anthology Salle des Capucines, definitely the mecca of memorable concerts after the last passing insane Patti Smith and Madonna scandal.

As noted by a spectator comedian, "Shane MacGowan appeared on stage at the Olympia dressed in a gin and tonic." This is partly true because it sat on a small table placed between two amps back and placed a large fan in front of the toothless singer. But he arrived in a black suit, white shirt and tie, upper body leaning forward and sideways, across the stage with the approach of an old shepherd who ascended too stony mountains. Mountains to him being beer kegs, white, gin and other non-alcoholic substances but equally galvanizing. Shane has thickened and the size of the face, oval 80 having been replaced by square lines, eyes hidden by thick black glasses obliterating a look inhabited by childish malice and freshness of the man.

For nearly two hours, eight members of the group have given two consecutive evenings with unexpected gusto and fervor for people of this age (they were all between 55 and 60 years). The two concerts co-produced by France Polydor used to capture a double CD / DVD commemorating the 30th anniversary of the group to appear in November. The group had a dual pressure (Guinness) on shoulders, do not miss their great and Parisian awaited return after an absence of two decades and not screw up the performance of these expensive dates, guaranteeing their future on other scenic hexagonal scene.

Alcohol consumption defying medicine

The first date, complete in a few days, was increased by a second and it was enough to walk in the middle of the room to understand that a majority of the public came to see the phenomenon / legend MacGowan and check whether it was still also "destroy" announced. Nobody was disappointed because Shane, although abandoned hero, remains attached to alcohol defying medicine.

His unsteady gait shows a skeleton somewhat damaged and swallowed every sip followed by a cigarette cramée in two minutes by three puffs. Yet his voice is just and secured without cheating, using only two songs on a teleprompter / computer.

For its part, the elegant guitarist Philip Chevron (whose new album with Radiators From Space worth listening emergency) defeated the law of manure throat cancer and all without a drive fault . MacGowan takes a deep breath through breathing offered from time to time, among other things, by Spider Stacy singing the compelling and clashien Tuesday morning (from the album Waiting for Herb and most successful international group) and gives a power pop color welcome after a half-hour show during which the group recites with precision, energy and fervor all its immense classics.

Burst of emotion "Fairytale of New York"

The first night the room is the reaction of apoplexy when the group begins the standard Ewan McColl Dirty Old Town and the voltage will not falter until the last note of feedback Fiesta that closes shattering Spider guitar. Before that the group has given a sublime version of Sunny Side of the Street boosted by the addition of the horn section (3), cavalcades Celtic-punk irresistible with A Pair of Brown Eyes, Irish Rover or the waggle Sally Mac Lennane. This is Ella, the daughter of Jem Finer (banjo), which takes the role of Kirsty MacColl always moving to Fairytale of New York completed the final steps in a waltz between her and Shane chaotic covered with snowflakes and winter there, You really have a heart of stone not to give a breath of emotion.

A special mention will be given to James Fearnley for her physical performance senseless: it scans the scene down, threw himself on the ground on his knees like a Hendrix / Iggy possessed with this huge accordion which we do not even want to know the weight.

Better than a comeback or a happy resurrection, the Pogues come to offer us the best of themselves with innocent joy and expertise of mercenaries experienced in all fights. According to the staff room, 20,000 beers have been passed every night with out of stock before the end of hostilities. An idea of the temperature? It is not every day that you witness such celebration. This is the unique chemistry of Irish blood probably.

Inrocks (extatic) review of the concerts in Paris

Post by MacGee Thu Sep 13, 2012 3:32 pm

Here is the review, sorry i don't have the time for the traduction (i hope someone has...) but so to say, the journalist is simply extatic and such a (very legitimate) compliment for you, Mr Chevron :

Bouffée d’émotion sur “Fairytale of New York”
