At a Celtic-themed restaurant the other day, they played "Bright Lights".... Not the most Irish of song choices, considering the theme of the restaurant, but it was still a pleasure to hear.

Turkish Song of the Damned at Walt Disney World. Two days ago. I was placing an order at a fish and chip shop located adjacent to an "Irish" pub at Downtown Disney. We'd had a full-on Disney day filled with excess, crowds, noise, and flagrant and disturbing consumer manipulation, and were looking for something to eat and a couple of pints, and TSotD starts up. I couldn't believe it. Very surreal, and yet somewhat soothing.

Odder still was that the next song was the Dubliners Seven Drunken Nights - and not the abbreviated version either.

The programme is about millionaires who go and live in poor communities and this week a man is visting Salford, he can't tell anyone he's a millionaire, he wants to help people in the community and wants to see where his money would be most use. At the end of his time there he choses who he wants to help.

At the beginning of the programme they were playing The Pogues version of Dirty Old Town.

I caught that too, they also played the original. 8)
Is that a top show or what, it is real reach for the hanky viewing.

I Know, heard that too, I have it somewhere on CD.

Slightly off topic, my mum used to know Ewan MacColl.

Walking thru the mall in King Of Prussia a few days after the Philadelphia show and I found myself singing along to the piped in music. I then realised it was Tuesday Morning, so bizarre.

Today on a Cadillac comercial, Sunnyside of the Street.

All so surreal.

Last night I went to a party where two people were celebrating their 45th birthdays. There was lots of 80ies music played, but the only Pogues song in between was "Thousands are sailing" which was very well received.

At Kavanagh's Irish Pub, friends and fellow cops of the late Ray Cole gather to uphold a Baltimore police tradition: a final drink with their deceased friend. (Cole was played by the show's late executive producer Robert F. Colesberry and the character's wake was in part a tribute to the actor who portrayed him.)

* sadly, minus the Sally Mac puking scene...

I was disturbed that this women would disrobe to the band that was not familiar with. Obviously taken aback, I said, " Would you like to explain yourself" and she got mad and stole my sneakers. A painful case all around.

Hahaha, what a great story. Probably one best used in carefully chosen circumstances though. i.e. not when the inlaws are round for dinner!

Do you know if that was her selected song or was it a DJ playing the tune for the dancers? Were they locals or American dancers that dance and strip for the tourists? I would have found it odd to hear any Pogues in Mexico. That would make my night.
