Great song! Typifies every pogues gig I was at (and I was at many) during that glorious 1986-1989 era

Correct '1986' doesn't fit the song (try it!) so Terry with poetic licence changed it to 1987 -- and it rhymes with heaven.

I've always considered this a lost pogues song. Wonder if they ever recorded it?

1986 not 1987, yeah?

Yes it does! Am not sure wether Terry said that at the Chevron, Harrigan Woods gig in Germany some years ago or if it's in the press info I got with my copy of the Bucks CD, anyway I have it in my head that they took 1987 because it sounded better than 1986.

The band wre throwin back poteen just before the show
To quiet their nerves & gee them up all rearin to go
When the squeeezebox hit the openining bars of a set of reels
A madness came upon the growd , it was a sight to see

They were dancin in the balconies dancin in the bars
They were dancin in the toilets even out in the car park
The whole place erupted to a beat more hell than heaven
Psycho ceili in Claremorris 1987

The crowd formed 2 huge circles & danced around the hall
bumpin into one another & bouncin off the wallls
The band wound up the tempo till the dance became a run
A crazy mad demented hellish Irish sort of fun

We partied long & hard that night with n"er a thought of bed
The amount of jar that was consumed we shuold have all been dead
When the craics that good no fool gives a damn about tomorrow
I"lll not forget the night we played the ceili in Claremorris
