Please come back to Oregon in the US! I have been a fan of your group for a long time but keep missing concerts...

Holy shit, is that true do you think? I do recall a post on here a few weeks back someone saying they were travelling over from Oz for the gig. Hardly them?

Think that was me that said that. But wasn't me that ended up on the wrong night, poor bastard. 8)

I made it alright, to both the Manchester and the first Brixton gig and despite the fog of my jetlag I managed to bounce around with all the beautiful lunatics down the front. Pogue paradise, but for the lack of Phil. Struck by the focus on Shane over there (UK) when for me it's as much about the other lads and the thing they create on stage when all together. Special mention to Spider for singing his guts out and soldiering on with the MC duties, and James for his gentleman's acrobatics. And to Darryl for getting the hell back up again with dignity. And Andrew Jem and Terry for their smiles and doing their quiet thing to keep it all chugging and plinking along.

Manchester was a vocal rabble of a crowd, loved it. Brixton was just all limbs and pit-beast and I hope the little lady and her gentleman down the front we were trying to save from drowning in the eager press didn't have too many bruises the next day. You're all bloody beautiful and if there is a next time and they do Red Roses or If I Should Fall... in their entirety I'll be swimming to England from Australia to be there.

Not quite as bad but close: Last year my friend and I showed up for a Cure concert in NYC on a Sunday with Saturday tickets.

.... 19th December .... 21:15h ... pogo starts ... after 1h45m ... the fiesta stopped ... sweating like pigs ... lucky like a baby ...

There is nothing left to say and I also have no words to describe what happened - you need to be there to feel it, see it, get it, ...
Thanks for this fairytale in London, the big party, the great songs....

I was happy to see that people also helped each other when someone falls down while "dancing"...

PS: Special thx to M. and Barny for the idea and organisation joining this "christmas party" in Brixton Acadamy ...

I've been saying that for 25 years William! Glad you enjoyed it.

On that basis, Dave, we might get another quarter century out of him...

William K wrote:First Pogues concert for us last night (Thursday 19th December). Brilliant experience but terrifying at times for my wife; we didn't realise everyone danced and drank simultaneously near the front of the stage. The band came on at about 21.15 and played through Rum, Sodomy and the Lash with Fairy Tale of New York near the end. Shane McGowan was on stage for much of the performance, with a cigarette in his left hand, replenished from time to time by his PA. His legs looked weak but his voice was awesome. The music and musicianship were superb, however our main memories will be about the people who surrounded us. I have some personal messages for them. To the guy who spilt a pint of Guinness down my back: What a waste. Lend me £10 and I'll buy you another drink. To the beautiful girl with a reindeer tattooed between her shoulder blades: Very seasonal. Merry Christmas. To the man with glasses who chain smoked throughout the performance: Don't, you're setting Shane a bad example. To the huge guy who inadvertently sent my wife spinning to the floor: Please don't ever consider entering for Strictly Come Dancing. To the same huge man who also trod on my foot: Please stop worrying. It's only bruising, no fractures. A glittering future awaits you in rugby or Sumo wrestling. To the charming Irishman who helped my wife to safety: God bless you sir, hope to see you again next time we come to a Pogues concert.

Excellent first post - the "personal messages" really made me smile. Seriously, I hope your wife is OK and enjoyed the evening despite everything.
