Back in 1988-94 I worked for several clubs in San Francisco including the Warfield Theatre - My friend the stage manager told me he got a little nervous when the Pogues (with Joe Strummer) showed up for morning sound check and promptly began downing golddrivers - but my friend went on to say that the Pogues were the most professional boys he'd had the pleasure of dealing with. After the show, I was able to go backstage and chat and truly whomever we spoke with was engaging and polite. Joe Stummer signed my friend's drivers' license (before they were credit cards)quite the gentleman all the while.
Previous to this show, I'd missed Shane twice - in 87 or 88 the Pogues played the Fillmore and a cute boy promised to take me, then got drunk with another girl and forgot to pick me up for the show - then I had tickets to the Dylan show at the Berkeley Greek - well, we all know how that turned out - no Shane and borrowed instruments from what I understood and no dancing allowed though we managed to squeeze in a few jigs - still more fun that most of the shows I had to work through that's for sure
I hope that the boys will make it to the West Coast of the US and I will fly to whatever city I need to see them again, this time intact - in the meantime, I play the records and sing Kitty to my four children at bedtime
