I wished for "Ned" at the NY show last March (13) - I don't think it was played then.

Behan, you're right, it wasn't played either night.

I shot the show (photos) from the photo pit and will have them up with my review shortly (one shot includes Jem Finer standing in between an arguing-on-stage Shane and Spider, but there are some other really nice ones as well).

Show was....something. Spider's agitation was channeled into lyrics spat out like bullets ("Bottle of Smoke" a prime example) as he had to do most of the singing, but it definitely amped up the band too, they indeed played with vigor. And Shane well...more on that later.

Will post with the link when I go live...FWIW, Mr. Chevron, your lovely and ringing delivery was like a wonderful salve to the burning friction onstage for the crowd.

Wow... I came here for some insight into what had happened and got even more than I was expecting  I wasn't overly familiar with the Pogues going into the show but I was looking forward to seeing them live. Had I been more familiar with the history of the band I guess I wouldn't have been as shocked.

There's no sense dwelling on the condition Shane was in, but it broke my heart. There was lots of pointing and laughing from the crowd, the band was obviously embarrassed, and I was embarrassed for them.

In spite of the drama, the band was on fire and "Thousands are Sailing" in particular was one of the highlights of a festival where the other big names (cough,KISS,cough) disappointed. If y'all come back to Louisiana again I will definitely be there.

So did Spiro find Shane in a hotel or was he searching for a hotel with him in vain? Now I am getting lost like Shane. :)

philipchevron wrote:Thank you all for your concern. Shane did in fact turn up, just three songs late and has been fined accordingly. Spider held the fort admirably up to then and, I must be honest, later in the show too. New Orleans is perhaps not the best place to get lost, but if anyone can get lost there, Shane MacGowan can. We are grateful to the Pogues fan who found him and brought him to the Festival site.

Damn I missed this all day as I was engrossed in NFL happenings here. Great news that he's alright. I will say early on when the dates were announced the thought of Shane in NOLA especially this time of year (probably second largest crowds after Mardi Gras) had me thinking he'd be a bit more saucy the usual, but go missing?! I didn't picture that. Did Joey Cashman forget to change time on his watch last night? With the time change he should have been early :?
