I think it was David Coulter. Mighta been James McNally though.

David Coulter played didgeridoo on the extended intro to "Turkey Song by the Damned" from at least 1993 onwards. Though I only saw the late line-up once, it seems perfectly reasonable to suppose he also later used it on "Oretown". I once watched David play musical saw in a (non Pogues related) piece of dance theatre. Very good he was too. It seems fitting that he should have ended up in various Marc Ribot conglomerates.

I seem to recall the didgeridoo intro with Turkish Song Of The Damned, but am likely wrong.

I'm nearly positive that was the 96 tour.

I've a video bootleg from that tour, and there is indeed just such an extended intro featuring didgeridoo going into Turkish.... Oretown is played more or less as on the album (except Spider is absent, so Jem sings it).

It's this show here:

Usualdog- the brass is truly awesome, thanks for posting the link. Think I'll have to go & play it again-stunning!. I remember the brass section back in the day. I think I also remember a few scottish bagpipe players emerging once, to join the band and Kirsty for "Miss Otis regrets" down in Brixton.......that would go down a treat on youtube.

Actually, we often had a horn section back in the day, too, mainly centred around After Tonite, when they used to open for us. Something similar happened with the Jesses.

Who is this brass section, and - more importantly - will they be traveling across the pond with you in the fall? I don't remember it being so filled out last time around.

They are the Jesse James Horns. Unfortunately, their exotic lifestyle and the unreasonable demands on their backstage rider precludes their travelling with us to Amerikay.

Great vid. I think the brass section sounds great too. The best bit of the video is when Shane misses the cue at the start of Fiesta and Terry and Philip are roaring laughing as he pulls it back.
