Of course – they work wonders.
1) They make you feel a very important person. (And you don’t even have to spend heaps on cash on psychoanalyst!)
2) They spark off heated, philosophical debates in which everybody can be an expert on everything.
3) They make you cherish the feeling of being a part of an invincible mass with world-changing power.
4) If they fail, they give you a perfect excuse to drink your head off. (Everybody can understand that you need to drown your sorrow.)
And I haven’t even mentioned that they can raise the fame of certain people to paramount heights... So how can you doubt the importance of having petitions?
