You Tube Comment

Post by Mike from Boston Tue Oct 20, 2009 9:25 pm

Don't think this has been posted before. I saw this comment on a YouTube video of Lorelei. Got a chuckle out of it.

One of my favourite songs. Reminds me of a girl friend when I was young. My mum went to see the statue of the Lorelei on her rock in the Rhine.
She said It's a bit pornographic. Then again, I don't suppose you would crash your ship for a nice girl in sensible shoes.

Wonderful song, and knowing the story behind it makes it somehow even better. I'd love to hear it done live...

I second that. Realy like the song and it gets better the more you listen to it. Even my girlfriend (whos Not a Pogues fan) realy likes it. 8)

German Grand Prix d´Eurovision band Dschinghis Khan once did a song called "Lorelei", too. Same topic, but in fact more light-hearted, especially musically. It´s not really a bad song as the tune is pretty good, but it surely isn´t a patch on Mr Chevron´s song.

Agreed. :D

I never understood why people took a dislike to it.

I kinda can understand why people might not like it, it is pretty different to all previous Pogues stuff (although then again so is most of Peace and Love, but Lorelei especially) but I think its good anyway.

Me too. Its a higher pitch ballad thing. It also doesn't tell much more of a story than the whole - these rocks and the angst associated with them (sorry Phillip :) ) thing.

I like the song. But I have short ribs cooking ...........

You can add me to the list of Lorelei fans... I love it. That moment when the vocal comes in for the opening line... magical.

Thanks for posting this Philip. I edited this page so that any reader would be clear on who deserves credit for the song...
