I met Jem once. It was The Wismen's first ever gig, in The Water Rats at Grays Inn Road. This venue, under it's previous name, was also scene of the first ever Pogues gig. Spider, Daryl and Andrew were all in The Wismen at that stage and Jem arrived with Kirsty MacColl to watch the gig. We had a chat and I found him to be a real gentleman and very interesting too. I like his dry sesne of humour. There is a great story in The Lost Decade about when the Pogues were on a US radio show in the 1980's and the interviewer was enjoying the band's comments and said something along the lines of "You Pogues guys are crazy, have you got any more quotes for me?", to which Jem replied, totally deadpan- "Yeah, get the f*ck out of Nicaragua"
