For LO, he was bored in His summer hols, and then taketh He to the Hammer and the Plane, and the Noisy Thing that routeth a channel through the wood, and LO, after a few false sarts with shonky spice-racks He was pleas-ed, for a Master Carpenter had He become, and He did look at His small nested tables, and they were good. Here endeth the lesson.

Apparently he's not too good at carpentry though...

Thats just because he doesn't have the time, what with everything else he does. I'm sure if he wanted to, he could be a master of carpentry too

I met Jem once. It was The Wismen's first ever gig, in The Water Rats at Grays Inn Road. This venue, under it's previous name, was also scene of the first ever Pogues gig. Spider, Daryl and Andrew were all in The Wismen at that stage and Jem arrived with Kirsty MacColl to watch the gig. We had a chat and I found him to be a real gentleman and very interesting too. I like his dry sesne of humour. There is a great story in The Lost Decade about when the Pogues were on a US radio show in the 1980's and the interviewer was enjoying the band's comments and said something along the lines of "You Pogues guys are crazy, have you got any more quotes for me?", to which Jem replied, totally deadpan- "Yeah, get the f*ck out of Nicaragua"

I never cease to be increasingly impressed by the extracurricular activities of all the Pogues, as I learn more about them over the years. I could not agree more, DzM, re: the breadth of interests that is Mr. Finer. And father to a fine vocalist as well. BTW, I just thought, since he was experimenting with the house gate sonically/tonally-wise, maybe he could be an 'avant garden' sound artist?

And thanks MacRua, yet again for great late-night reading!

I know this sounds like so much fan-boy blathering, but Jem is really incredibly interesting.

A CompSci degree.
An aspiring astronomer.
A musician, song writer, and composer.
An avante garde sound artist.
A guinely nice guy.

Jem - if you ever read this - Good on ya and on the Finer clan.
