The Decemberists – Make You Better Lyrics
i love songs I want you, thin fingers I wanted you, thin fingernails1 And when you bend backwards I wanted you, I needed you Oh-oh, to make me better2 I’ll love you in springtime I lost you when summer came3 And when you pulledadele weight 2015 backwards I wanted to,I needed to Oh-oh, to make me better4 Oh-oh, to make me better But we’re not so starry-eyed5 anymore Like the perfect paramour you were in your letters And won’t it all just come around to make you6 Let it all unbreak you to the day you met her But it’d make you better It’d make you better

I got in touch with Colin when support for the March US reunion came up, but his first child's due date is the beginning of March, so he's got every excuse.

By all accounts he's a big Pogues fan. I find the Decemberists about as inspiring a bunch of musicians you can come across and Colin one of the best songwriters you could wish to hear.

hi james...thank you very much for your respond....it´s nice to hear these warm words about them and their songwriting...i totally agree with you...and it´s funny that you saw colin in an solo gig the day before yesterday...must have been an impressive experience as well...besides their music i had the feeling when i saw them in concert last year that they´re very kind persons...it was a very friendly performance..if you know what i mean (unfortunately my english is not the best...can we communicate in russian? )...
what a pity that colin won´t have the time for the march reunion..but as you said...he has the best excuse in the world...

are their other new bands you admire as much as the decemberists?

and will i ever have the possibility seeing you guys live here in good old germany? there are so many many fans around here....i am djing myself and at my pre-christmas gig i played "fairytale..." at the end of the night and i was impressed about the reaction of the people....a few asked what song it is with a smile on their face and another couple of lovers walzted around the floor...this was real MAGIC!!

thanks very much that you´re back in the buisness...we´ve missed you!!!

best wishes, heiko

You are lucky to get nice reponses . One guy played same song at a recent function. I was looking for it and found this thread. It was indeed magical. Heiko, you must have good skill in performing that song. keep it up !

I live in Portland and Colin is in a Pogues cover band called KMRIA that play once a year or so. It is a conglomeration of the local musical hoi polloi, so he may not play every gig. I think they are playing Seattle this month.

The Decemberists have a new album out called The Crane Wife which I've only heard snippets of so I can't offer an opinion. But that's that.

For anyone who´s interested in The Decemberists, you can download a full show here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor ... Id=4627506

Also lots of other bands like Wilco, Belle and Sebastian and Sinead O'Connor

Health & Safety Notice For James Fearnley Re; Knees

2005-02-01: Knee protection
DIN EN 14404 PSA "Knee protectors for work in the kneeling position" just published

Without adequate knee protection, persons working in a kneeling position may suffer immediate injury. Continuous pressure on the knee increases the risk of chronic diseases such as prepatellar bursitis and cartilage injuries.

Knee protection is a type of personal protective equipment covered by Directive 98/686/EEC and is required to bear the CE mark of conformity. The first edition of DIN EN 14404 translates this directive into concrete requirements relating to knee protection by laying down requirements and test methods. Certificates are issued by notified agencies such as the Zentrum für Sicherheitstechnik in Erkrath.

Various types of knee protectors are available. The new standard distinguishes four types: knee protectors that are independent of other clothing and fasten around the leg (type 1), knee protectors inserted, for example, in pockets on trouser legs (type 2), devices not attached to the body (type 3), and knee protectors which are part of devices with additional functions, such as a frame to aid standing up (type 4).

The standard defines two performance levels: Level 1 applies to knee protectors used for work on flat floor surfaces and level 2 for protectors suitable for use in severe conditions such as when kneeling on broken rocks in mining and quarry work.

The standard lays down minimum values for the dimensions of the zones of protection, and mechanical requirements such as penetration resistance, force distribution and the peak transmitted force in impact. Requirements also deal with comfort during use and means of restraint. There also detailed requirements relating to the marking of the knee protection and the information to be provided by the manufacturer to ensure the protectors are used as intended.

A friend of mine I used to work with walked up to me one day and said, "Have you ever heard of the Decemberists?" I said no so he let me borrow his CD... I still have it. It's really great.

And you played so hard ruined the knees in your suit?! That cinches it! I'm going to the Molly Malone's show!

Just got back from a Decemberists' gig. Pretty fun, they tried to play some of their slower material and the crowd just wasn't having it. Finally they let loose and everybody broke out in smiles, rocking away. They ended their encore by marching everyone outside and back in again. Even the bassist and drummer grabbed their instruments leading to a drum/bass session outside. The accordionist was great too. My only wish left unfulfilled was hearing them try "Sickbed."

Maybe next time

hallo james,
since 2 or 3 years i´m a fan of the decemberists...it´s funny that it´s the first band with folkelements i like since years (except the pogues - i ever loved and still do)...cause my taste in music went into another direction (calexico, tindersticks, lambchop and that kind of stuff).
a couple of months ago i read about an mp3 file with a live cover of "sick bed of..." with you on the accordian...so i dl it and was thrilled....on one hand cause you were playing and on the other hand cause i didn´t expect them playing an pogues song....great stuff...
what do you think about them? what about the decemberists as an support for march?
saw them live in berlin last november which was fantastic....

best wishes to you...hope i will ever see you live in germany some day....
