Try the Magnetic Fields.

Not as full of a sound but still good stuff.

I'd back up that recommendation, rockers1977. Love the Decemberists just now. :)

well, DZM, i'd love to give you a few tips, but the LASO cd i won on ebay never arrived, so i have yet to hear it. however, after hearing of james' involvement with the decemberists (and a few other recommendations) i decided to pick up their new one, 'picaresque'. and i must say i like it. the singer's voice may leave a little to be desired, but it is an interesting one. and the songwriting and instrumentation is good as well. the über-indie kid at the store also mentioned their recording of 'the tain' as being a good one as well, so i may pick it up someday.

also, and it may be stating the obvious, 'mlah' by les negresses vertes is fantastic as well. it's so french you can almost taste the cigarettes and cheese...

i didn't want to see this post sit unreplied to any longer!

Recommendations for bands like Low & Sweet?

So then - I quite enjoy the sound that the Low & Sweet Orchestra has. Kind of a mix beteween the sound in Straight To Hell and Rum Sodomy & The Lash. I'm really saddened that things didn't work out for the group.

So if I wanted to listen to more music in a similar style, who would I be seaking out? I'd really appreciate some recommendations.

Cheers!
