From what I've heard, Shane bought a huge hash cake the night before and had a small bit of it that night. The next morning when he woke up, he was hungry and ate it all. He can't handle hash cakes, so that's why he was out of it in the rather unique way you see on the footage.

I think it's hilarious myself.

I love Shane and that actually hurt seeing that video. Then when I saw him not being able to do Broad Majestic earlier in the show,I just couldn't watch it any more.I'm glad you put it up Mick, cos I had read about those type of performances.I'm just glad he just sticks to the booze now.I've seen him the last 2 Patty's Day's in NYC,and I much prefer Shane the way i've personally seen him, even in the wheelchair in 07,which i'm sure he didn't have to do.He could have just said F this, but he went on anyway. And i've not seen him drink on stage while he's been performing the last 2 years.Last year he didn't until Fiesta from what I saw.Anyway, thanks for that look into the past.Looking forward to Mar.14 in NYC.

Shane in bad shape

Post by mikalebrug Fri Feb 13, 2009 12:17 pm

Anyone seen this clip? Probably the most tragic video I've ever seen of Shane:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jr57-00N374

I don't know when it's from - mid-90s I guess. For those of you who saw him perform in those days, was he often in as bad shape as this?

I remember Shane was touring with the popes in Sweden in the 90s but after the bad reviews I didn't bother to go. Now I'm glad I didn't.

It was something I was looking for in music and I found it that day. It changed my life radical. To see it back brings back great memories and i'm sorry If some of you do not like it.

this is the complete program (if anybody is interested)
Zondag
Type-O-Negative, The Jayhawks, Sick Of It All, Del Amitri, Dog Eat Dog, Teenage Fanclub, Osdorp Posse, De Heideroosjes

Maandag Zuidpodium:
Sinéad O'Connor, The Levellers, Faith No More, Biohazard, The Tragically Hip, Rollins Band, Bettie Serveert, Live, Shane MacGowan & The Popes, dEUS, Spearhead, Pete Droge

Maandag Noordpodium
Danzig, Van Dik Hout, Slash's Snakepit, Bad Religion, G Love & Special Sauce, Heather Nova, Hootie & The Blowfish, Dave Matthews Band.
Locatie: Megaland Landgraaf

Hootie & The Blowfish??? Really?! Fuckin' hilarious.

Also, while a sad performance, I think Mick was right in asking first (before posting) and it was clearly a moment that meant something to Fluke, Mick and countless others. I had never seen (or heard of) it, nor am I going to judge Shane (or you, or you, or you...). I thank God there are not videos of me at my worst. Most of us have found ourselves on a path best not taken from time to time. Such is life...

That's exactly why I hesitated to put it on at first. However as it was with Fluk, this was my first encounter with Shane and I loved the music after this because I was curious about the music. Needless to say this gig actually changed my life

To judge a person properly you can´t only look at the good sides.

back on topic children..:

I know this festival to be visited by loads of kids that come to enjoy themselves more than comming to see the bands. Not all of them offcourse but yeah, if you make an overview of the audience, you will see them. At least they're dancing and not throwing stuff at the stage or boeing at this shame of a performance. All these years I thought it to be some kind of legendary gig. Because it was my first time Shane, who I learned to love from that point on. After seeing it now a couple of times, I believe that it is one of the worst performances I've ever seen. (I mean of ALL the gigs I've ever seen)
I remember that the manager came on stage because Shane's 'singing' became more and more mumbling and he looked like he could fall down any moment. He was clinging to his mic stand.

I do not agree with Langer. It is not a secret that this happened (a lot) with Shane. Even Shane himself doesn't show any emphathy or remorse... I am really glad that it is possible to discuss 'not so possitive' opinions on this board because that's not very common on fan boards..

I'm glad Mick put it up because no matter how sad, it was my first Shane experience and I've never saw it back. It certainly changed my life...
