"Contact Yourself" no longer exists and did so only briefly. It was never a serious option to offer a 20-minute acid house track to a petrified record company who already hated the album we did deliver. But try telling that to your lead singer when he's in the middle of an acid trip. Just saying..............""end quote

Post by devo Wed Oct 21, 2009 11:15 pm

Ive heared it mentioned before that shane wished to record an acid house track in 1988 but the band wernt too keen on it.

is there any truth in the story and if there was how far did it go?

Maybe key words are "deaf" and "morons", huh? Or it would be another reason to quit...

So true. I could never work out whether you could only listen to that stuff if you were on drugs... or if it was the being on drugs that made you want to listen to it. Me, I'll stick with me banana.

they ARE, Firehazard, they ARE! that's a problem. A band of evil consumers who makes the whole showbiz thing work for them day and night tirelessly, never turning mics and recording machines off...

Were they a band, MacRua? I don't remember any of their music. But then I'm not into that acid stuff. More of a cup of tea and a banana man myself.

Ive never taken acid but ive seen people on it and they can find enjoyment from the most boring music ive ever heard. You could sit in a room with peope on acid and bang a spoon on a pan and they would dig it.

I think lsd and extasy probably played a big part in people enjoying acid house. If you need to be high on drugs to enjoy something it must be and is shite.

Well, in truth, it was only ever really a backing-track loop and a lot of oul talk. Which saved us the trouble. As Shane will never tire of telling you, The Pogues were all up their own arse at this point and he was the only one who still wanted to play "Irish music". Such as this piece. Which was long. 30 minutes long. Practically an album. With no discernible Irish music in it. Except for the composer's nationality. But not up its own arse. Not at all.

I remember how shocked I was the first time Shane mentioned this track in an interview. I hated all that acieeeeeeeed shite that was around at the time.
