A few weeks have passed now. But the pain will be raw.
Thinking about the MacGowan family, and wish them well for the future, after their' sad, sad loss.

By chance, I happened to be in line behind Mrs. MacGowan in Dublin one evening. She was picking up her passes and chatting with two fans. I remember how friendly and open she was to the gentlemen she was speaking to. Nothing but a moment in time, but who we are as people are all these moments strung together.

May she rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to her family and loved ones.

Grief is such a powerful thing, you go about your day stuck between memories and waves of emotion. It's almost an alternate reality, your mind switching from past to clouded present. One can still well up with tears in an instant, years later. Bless.

He ain't looking too good, to put it mildly.

Would you if you're at the funeral of an old friend after just hearing your own Mother has died in a car crash?

Edit: I removed the cursing I initially had written. Not appropriate on this thread.

There's a big difference between looking grief-stricken and being gravely ill/weak. It's a MacGowan message board, not a condolence card to the family. Relax!

Yes, and let's keep in mind he's still recovering from hip/pelvis surgery (hence serious crutches, and people helping him along). I happen to know a comparatively young, healthy, and very fit guy (in his late 30s) recovering from hip replacement surgery (workplace accident), and it's a multi-year recovery. He was 3 months to walking without crutches, and 18 months later has a cane still. And his mom and friend/former manager have not just died.

How well would any of us look?

Pogues singer Shane MacGowan has thanked friends and family for their support following the sudden death of his mother Therese.

The 87-year-old was killed when the car she was driving struck a wall near Nenagh, Co Tipperary, around 3pm last Sunday.

It is believed Therese may have suffered a heart attack before crashing her Toyota Avensis at Ballintoher, on the outskirts of the town.

The 59-year-old singer was last night being supported by his long-term girlfriend Victoria Mary Clarke, who issued a message on his behalf as he tried to come to terms with the news.

"Shane MacGowan would like to say thank you and God bless you to all the people who are offering kind words and condolences. It means a lot," she wrote.

"People are being overwhelmingly lovely and kind. Thank you."

A source close to the star said he has been left "devastated" by his mum's death, which was also the first road death of 2017.

"He just can't believe it, it's the worst news possible. She's the reason he got into music in the first place and she's supported him through thick and thin over the years.

"He's shell-shocked by this, it's obviously hit him very hard." she said.

Tributes have poured in to the band's official site. Thousands of fans of the star sympathised with his sudden loss as the story made headlines around the world.

His elderly mother was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Her remains were taken to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem examination.

Very sad news..although, if it was quick, better than laying in a hospital bed, dying by inches.
