I wouldn't believe any band that "sailed through to the latter stages of the nationally syndicated Surface Unsigned competition" would manage to get tenses muddled up, nor lie for a shred of publicity in the Swindon Advertiser.

Local band looks ahead to Fairytale gig supporting the Pogues

By Scott McPherson, 22nd December 2010, Swindon Advertiser

GETTING to perform with the band who sang the most popular Christmas song of all time was a true Fairytale for a group of Swindon musicians. Local band The Costellos supported The Pogues at a sold-out event, The Brixton Jamm last night after a mystery fan got in touch with Shane McGowan’s legendary band, famed for their yuletide classic ‘Fairytale of New York’...
(The whole article is here)

Did any of the Pogues make it to the Brixton Jamm after all, or does the article only express wishful thinking despite using the past tense? :)

He looked knackered & like he wished he was somewhere else too. No other pogues at "official" aftershow either as far as I know.

Every year, it seems, I have to make the same clarification. This "event" has nothing to do with The Pogues and any suggestion that the band may attend is completely fraudulent.

Tickets can apparently be had for Shane's appearance at JAMM in Brixton after the Pogues gig on Tuesday 21st Dec for £10.00 from Ticketweb by entering the code 'fairytale' when prompted.

Shane DJ set + guests. Shane played with The Popes last year I think. Sounds like an all-nighter. Does anyone know roughly what time things happened last time?
