TBH, I was kinda hoping Shane was gonna appear with a new band, I've seen him with The Popes 7 times now, and I don't know whether it was because I was drunk at the gigs or just the exact same sets, but I honestly couldn't distinguish between any of them (except 2 were in London :))
But man, the Popes and Shane need to geta few new songs, it's still gonna be a great gig, but I really wouldn't complain if they could try something new....

Paul Harrington, Terry Woods and Eamon Campbell along with Shane are The Hellfires.

Dunphy's a stirring evil man, glad he's finished. Couldn't have happened to a nicer man.

Shane and the Popes kick off the Irish part of their tour, with The Popes, Friday 12th Dec 2003 in Toomebridge. As for splitting up, I think not my dear fellow. They're still going strong, reelin n rockin n rollin till the break of dawn.

I've heard mixed reports as regards to the Dublin gigs, but I do know its Shane & The Popes, but not sure whether or not its The Shamrogues or the Fluid Druids. Hopefully the former, as the Druids are apparently punk/reggae, and jesu cristo only knows how they mix.

He's also updated his touring and is playing in The Olympia again on 14th and 15th March 2004, and Shepherd's bush on St Paddy's day.

for more tour updates try the official site http://www.shanemacgowan.com keep an eye on the forum its popular and posts almost every 5 mins.

Enjoy the man himself in concert.

Regards and Bubbles,

Jr

BTW he was never billed to play Shane Macgowan and the Shamrogues, it was Shane Macgowan / the Shamrogues meaning the support act. The hellfire club (Shane Terry a dubliner or two) played on the TV show because it wasn't worth flying the popes over from london to play for five minutes.

I'm not sure what the deal is with regards to the Popes, originally he was billed to play the Dublin shows this christmas with The Shamrogues, and with support from The Fluid Druids.
Now all the posters and listings say The Popes...but it is the same poster that they have been using for years, so I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't get around to changing it this time around.

Also, when Shane was on the Dunphy Show last week, he play with T.Woods, A Dubliner (Eamonn Campbell) and a female accordian player; they were introduced as "Shanes new band"...didn't catch the name....

I suppose I will see in a few weeks!
