DzM! Got an e-mail from Mark. He must have seen this thread, because he confirms, it's all true and it was a Popes gig (0K, there is Mad Dog's mug on one of photos, I could be wrong but I'd add on my own behalf it looks like March 2004) and "Sinatra" was taken at the Meltdown Festival where Mark shot for the Royal Festival Hall. That event may be better known as Disney Vintage Song book, where Shane sang Zee Badee Doo Dah solo and something howling with Nick Cave, Pete Doherty and.. hmm.. some body else.. Do not remember now. It took place in June 2007. There must be a thread.. We discussed it a lot. And we had some shots in the gallery. Mark kindly enriched it with his photo:

The latter two look Popes-ish. And the story on the second one makes it Not A Pogues Gig, as I'm nearly certain Ross would have kicked his arse for that.

Aside - Wow! No OIs or Me Lucky Stars or any other static in that post! That's downright readable. Are you feeling OK?

Mark Mawston - Photography & Book

Post by MacRua Tue Feb 12, 2008 8:07 am

Cinema Retro London-based contributing writer and photographer Mark Mawston has recently been inducted into the prestigious Rock Archive.

The Archive, founded in 1998 by award-winning photographer Jill Furmanovsky, has become the world’s finest print archive specialising in rock and roll imagery and counts as its contributors some of the most famous rock photographers on the planet.

He is currently compiling a book “written by a fan for the fan” in which he describes meetings with such legends as Brian Wilson, The Stones, Shane McGowan, Iggy Pop, The Sex Pistols, The Elvis TCB Band, Cream, Ennio Morricone, John Barry, Arthur Lee, Sam Phillips and many others.

And here's cupla snaps of Shane (by Mark Mawston)

P.S.Other photos are great too
