A decent quality video clip of the band performing the body of an american exists from the Bergen 2005 gig.

I was at that Gig with Mrs Moose. I was talking to one of the doormen outside the venue at about 9ish and asked him if Shane was in the building, he replied not yet, so i said to the wife i hope he turns up, at that moment a voice says from behind me," he will be here", and low and behold who was standing next to me...........No it was'nt Shane it was Mad dog!
i dont think they came on stage untill well past 10.

Good story, moose. 8) And yeah, they did come on stage late. I remember some guy coming on stage about 9.30 to announce that it was still going to happen, please be patient.

We had been in the venue for nearly 2 hours by then. The Guinness in the Corn Exchange used to be good back in those days.

It was a good gig too. Though sadly the place was half empty. And whoever was supposed to be doing support (I can't remember who it was meant to be) failed to turn up.

The Popes recruited Brian Kelly in early 2004. Since mid 2004 Tom became on and off band member due to health issues. April and May of 2005 he spent in hospital curing his liver. So he didn’t play in Bergen.
And yes, that Bergen gig was the last gig of Shane & The Popes. More gigs were booked for late May – July 2005 (later rescheduled for autumn) but none of them actually happened.

I went to a Shane and Popes gig in Southsea which must have been spring 2005 (just after Paddy's Day?), Brian Kelly was playing with them, otherwise quite shamble-y. There is a blurry clip (not by me) on youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=kyLVxd_BmzE

I seem to recall that there was another one or two somewhere in Sweden just after that?

And speaking of the Popes - Oirish, you will like this - apparently they will be at the 100 Club in August:

August 15, 2008
Alien Jazz Party's 2nd Birthday with The Popes formerly led by Shane MacGowan, will be playing tracks from their new album, ‘Outlaw Heaven’ that was mixed by Chris Brown (Radiohead, etc.),Support Mudlow, Earl Grey And The Legomen, and Thee Assassins. With special guest DJ Don Letts (tbc).
Tickets: £15 on door,
£10 in advance
100 Club, 100 Oxford Street, London W1
