shoirt biography of the Popes, froim theoir oiffoicoial page..
The Popes were formed in 1993 by Shane MacGowan, after he was sacked from the Pogues. They developed a blend of Irish folk and punk sometimes referred to as Paddy beat. The Popes released three albums with MacGowan as well as a variety of EP's and singles. The Popes recorded one studio album, Holloway Boulevard, one live album, Release The Beast, one EP, Are You Looking At Me?, and several singles as a solo group. The line up has changed over the years but lead vocalist and principle songwriter Paul McGuinness, aka Mad Dog, has remained throughout.
The line up chained again recently after the tragic death of their formidable instrumentalist and banjo player Tom MacMannomen who was a major contributer to the band's unique sound.
The current line up consists of Paul McGuinness, guitar and vocals, Will Morrison, drums, Charlie Hoskyns, guitar and vocals, Gerry Diver, fiddle, banjo, accordion, and Laurie Norwood, bass. The band are in the studio at present, recording a new album tentatively titled 'Somewhere Between Heaven and Woolworths'. They are about to embark on a new tour in September 2007 and intend to release a new single from it called 'Raw.

There is nothing to talk about, besides vague plans I am afraid.

The exact dates will be announced soon <...> More details are coming soon.

When people long for news More to come soon is kind of exciting news too.
Tiny fish on empty dish. Too early to hold your breath or you'll get choked before those dates will be announced.

Nothing, went over to Shanemacgowan.com, but i can't ever find anything on their forum, which is just one long conversation that comes up backwards. A good time to say "this sight fucking rocks! thanks ya'll!". But there's also apparantly talk of Nips shows, so maybe Shane is feeling feisty. Curious to know who all is gonna be playing in both those bands...

I think thats healthy, The Pogues doing there own thing, it keeps the band from going stayle. I'll have to catch those shows, I hope Shane and boys don't just play Pogues songs.

This was recently posted by Ingrid on shanemacgowan.com...

"In addition to the Pogues gigs Shane will be doing some solo gigs this year. The exact dates will be announced soon. The members of his backing band are all high quality Irish musicians. Shane is very happy about that and he is very much looking forward to those shows. More details are coming soon."
