According to the Nipple Erectors blog it looks like Shane will not be performing at the Dirty Water Club gig:

"THE NIPPLE ERECTORS, the punk era rock'n'roll band which featured the talents of one Shane Macgowan, are back and sounding absolutely fantastic. With half the original members performing at this gig, Mike from Thee Vicars is taking over Shane's vocal duties and Eric from King Salami will sit in on the drums. (Eucalypta Aka Lady Vengeance will also be singing)."

The Nipple Erectors myspace site has a couple more London dates showing for this Friday & Saturday nights, don't know if I can make it to either of these but if they are anything like the 100 Club shows they fall into the unmissable category:

Well, that's it then, I've got to get another soundboard on this computer. I've gone without sound for months now, but this is the kicker.

For god's sake, I was not there as "back up", I was there to see the Nips for the first time in the best part of 30 years. And they were fucking brilliant.

Apologies, I was just regurgitating something I was told by somebody who claimed to be 'with the band.'

Shows I shouldn't believe everything I hear.

Top night.

The Nips
London, 100 Club

"There are more cue balled bonces than a Kojak convention here tonight but then the band most people are here to see split twenty eight years ago and the vast majority of the audience are old original fans. The Nips (originally known as the Nipple Erectors) were formed by two punk scenesters in the late seventies, put out a mere three singles before going onto form the two central bands in the early 80s cowpunk scene, the Men They Couldn’t Hang and the Pogues. This is believed to be the first time Shanne Bradley and Shane MacGowan (yes, that Shane MacGowan) have shared a stage since. Rumours about this appearance had circulated for a few weeks prior to tonight though with threats that if too much of a fuss was made they’d pull the gig, most people buying a ticket probably suspected it would never happen.

They come onto the stage just after 8.30 and they look great. Shanne, on bass, has scarcely aged while even Shane looks slimmer and less deshevelled than recent times. He’s kitted out in a clean dark suit though his T-shirt is suitably offensive. He may be drunk (though it’s difficult to tell these days with the toll from years of living the high life evident in his permanently glazed expression) but he’s not completely wasted and even remembers most of the lyrics (though one song now includes the line 'don't know the fucking words la la la'…). They play for about 30 minutes with Shanne’s daughter joining them for one track and they go down well, so well that Shane issues a dismissive “Fuck off!” when someone gets too appreciative. Hopefully we won’t have to wait another 28 years to hear Stavourdale Rd N5 or So Pissed Off . I leave, as do many others, before the next act, Johnny Moped appears. Yes, that Johnny Moped..."

For those (like myself) averse to MySpace, some pictures ended up being taken by an unfriendly paparazzo in front of the Groucho Club:

MadDog has uploaded a bunch of pics from the gig to his Myspace:
http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.c ... Id=1744792
(As things are with Myspace, it is neccesary to have an account to be able to view the pics.)

And here are his reports:

"1977 Heaven , The Nipple Erectors , The 100 Club
The Hottest ticket in town last tueday was for the return of The Nips at one of the oldest punk venues , the 100 Club in Oxford St . I arrived early and the queue was already snaking down the street . As I got inside , the band were mid soundcheck , and although Shane was reading lyrics from scraps of paper , the band was sounding tight . After a short soundcheck I hooked up with Shane in the tiny dressing room and it was fantastic to see him looking so well . The Club filled up in no time and although the main bands were Johnny Moped and , The Cute Lepers , everybody knew they were there to see The Nips . Its been at least 25 years since they played together , but the band and thier music have aged well .. Surprisingly , they were first on , and kicked off about 8.30 .The band were looking a little nervous at first , but Shanes arrival on stage sent up a huge cheer , and the band relaxed and started belting out all the old classics ... they were tight as as a nuns arse , which I can tell you , is pretty tight .. Im So Pissed Off and Gabriel were particularly outstanding .. Shane forgot some of the lyrics at times , but Shanne gave him lots of prompts .. half way through the set they were joined by Shanne's daughter , Eucalypta on vocals .. The set lasted just over half an hour but it was pure magic .. Afterwards ... Shane , Spider , Victoria , myself and assorted friends headed off to Soho for a meal and a drink while the band made thier way to the 12 Bar Club in Denmark St .. We ended up in The Groucho Club till the wee small hours , where Madness frontman Chas Smash gave me some piano lessons ... ahaaa , 1977 Heaven .. catch all the pics of the evening in the pics section , thanks to Lydia for the photographs , and Fi for the editing and effects .... Love ..... MadDog"

I was hoping you were going to point that out (it seemed churlish to speak on your behalf) - it made no sense whatsoever that they'd have you there as some sort of "first reserve", completely illogical.

Hope you enjoyed it and wish I'd fookin been there... :x

It was so good to see you there Spider. I really value your friendship and support. Thanks for being there :) :D
