I went up to the gig not sure if I have mentioned this in another thread. Was really disappointed. But y'know I'll get over it! I had a great night out in Birmingham anyway - and plus it just makes me more eager to see shane soon! :)

it's got very little to do with the concerns of one's wallet, you get all psyched up for the gig, there's the travelling, the anticipation, the thrill of the chase and all, and with twenty minutes to go, BANG! it's all off. It's heartbreaking.
Shane has threatened to retire from touring so many times it's embarrassing, and when the ticket in your pocket guarantees you absolutely nothing, maybe he should. Sure it would be a bloody shame, but so is standing in the street like a d-ckhead, deflated like last years party balloons!
So he wrote good stuff in the 1990's, but that was 15 years ago, maybe we as his fans should stop being so sycophantic and forgiving?
I get the impression he just couldn't be arsed, it's a double edged sword Shane-o

I just went to the Academy and they wont refund the tickets because they say that they are reschedueling the gig EVEN THOUGH it says on the official MacGowan website that is IS reschedueled AND MacGowan himself says they will not play any more gigs. So I wonder when everyone will be able to actually refund the tickets.

I know it says Echo and The Bunnymen are playing the MAIN STAGE on this day but I spose Popes could be on the Academy 2 stage at the same time although Im not sure if the Bham Academy can actually put 2 gigs on in these two locations on the same night as the Academy 2 is part of the bar of the main room.

Didn't this happen before the December '04 reunion shows? Shane cancelled at least two gigs with the Popes in October or November, if I recall correctly. And he was brilliant Dec. 13th.

If history repeats itself, he will be in top form for July shows with the Pogues.

Wish we were there. Enjoy!

The "Shanemacgowanofficialtourdates.com" site has always been NOTHING but a Popes site run by the Popes record company. Just to set things right.

The fact MacGowan misses gigs adds to his mystery and also to the idea of him being an unreliable genius.

Finally! someone got it...
It's a thoroughly planned demarche! Best brains worked on it.

The fact MacGowan misses gigs adds to his mystery and also to the idea of him being an unreliable genius. This is also what happens when Pete Doherty misses gigs. Someone like Paul McCartney would never miss gigs cos he is too profesional and uncool these days.

Such an event as this would never never occur were this a Pogues gig, or indeed any properly managed artist.

"All moanday, tearsday, wailsday, thumpsday, frightday, shatterday..."

As if no-shows were only Shane’s specialty – just yesterday, the Universally Beloved No. 1 in Irish Step-Dancing, Big Mr. Flatley, cancelled the world premiere of his new hyper-ultra-super "megashow" Celtic Tiger. Show for which there were posters on every corner in Prague for several months and which was personally promoted by the Master himself in every imaginable media. Cancelled mere two hours before the beginning... Isn’t it better to spend one’s precious time (and money) waiting in vain for Shane than for this (undoubtedly properly managed) clown... ehm, artist? ;)
