And just think of all the dangers that could be caused by vicious gangs of "keep left"-signs. :D

I think the reason these sort of events are for 'charity' is to make them feel less guilty for having a night out. £400000 is a pityfull amount, Elton John spends more than that on wigs.

We Didn't Start The Fire, he knew the lyrics to that but not Hell's Ditch. Even with a lyric sheet and teeth thats a hard song to sing.

And? What's wrong with it? Why was The Encounter honoured by mentioning at all? If a traffic cone swiped him as it staggered along the street it would be much more worthy of the name.

The London Paper has a little more (but not much more) about Shane:
http://www.thelondonpaper.com/cs/Satellite/london/lcsearch/article/1157148000212?packedargs=suffix%3DArticleController

Wealthy guests, knocking back William Grant spirits and Rothschild champagne, even went wild for toothless Irishman Shane McGowan, who raised a hefty £35,000 as he belted out We Didn’t Start the Fire.

But despite joining a distinctly A-list crowd McGowan showed he still hasn’t lost his naughty streak as he swiped a traffic cone as he staggered along the street on his way home.

£110,000 paid to get Sir Elton to sing.

Sad to see poor Elsie dropping her prices. :(

£110,000 paid to get Sir Elton to sing. I wonder how much it would've cost to get him not to sing.

All in a good cause, though. Thanks for posting, M and Z.

Would have got 4 songs from Shane..................A much better investment I'd have said. 8)
