I agree. The Peel Session version is one of The Pogues finest moments. The tin whistle is superb.

Which version are you talking of, IrishRover? The best one - in my opinion - is the performance on the John Peel show in 1985(?).

I was out on a trip to the a pub with great traditional music with a group I was going to school with once and after far too many drinks on the way back a guy was standing at the front of the minicoach taking song requests. An old irish-american lady yelled out 'do danny boy' and there was a great ring of laughter the man started and was promptly interupted by me throwing a bottle at him. The irish aboard cheered and we got off the bus and had another drink at a different pub.
