Oh it's available alright - a steal at £160...

I recently got that book, actually (though it was on ebay for considerably less!). You could probably design an entire Pogues Pub Tour based on that book :)

Almost correct, Shane did the 24h drinking session in a place called The Marathon (suitable name) Spider, Steve Earle and Cait went there during the St Patricks week in ´88.

See you in Gothenburg :D

I'll probably be trying to map out my own Pogues tour soon :)

"Sally MacLennane" is supposedly written in the light of Shane's experiences at his uncle's pub in Dagenham. Does anyone know the name of the pub?

I've got a feeling I may have known this once, but I just can't remember.

For four or five years in the early 1980s I was caretaker of the Hillview estate in Kings X. I used to listen to the Pogue Mahones rehearsing in Jem Finer's flat on the top floor of Whidbourne House, long before their first successes.

I used to push my broom around amongst the detritus (this was a very dodgy estate, lots of prostitution, smack dealing and the like) and reflect on whether I should persecute this rowdy band, who appeared to my clearly undiscerning ears to have no audible talent, and who were obviously disturbing the peace and the neighbourhood.

Fortunately, my libertarian instincts prevailed, and aside from picking an intoxicated Shane out of the Midhope St gutter on one or two occasions, took no active part in the life of the band (although I did try very hard to get some rent off them, to little avail).
