I always assumed it was a play on "Waiting for Godot", although i never was sure who Herb was. "Maybe Shane? i thought. Thanks Ciderman for revealing the truth!

Thanks, Ciderman.

The reference to the Sean O'Casey play does ring a bell with me.

I do recall hearing about Red Roses For Me but it escapes me now. Is it a reference to an old song?

I'm assuming?

Red Roses for Me is a four-act play written by Irish playwright Seán O'Casey which premiered at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin in 1943. The story is set against the backdrop of the Dublin Lockout of 1913, events in which O'Casey himself had participated.

Yes, that's it. I'd forgotten.

Titles of Pogues' albums

Post by John_G Wed Nov 23, 2022 11:52 am

I don't know why I'd never thought of this before but it dawned on me the other day that I don't know the origins of all the title of the Pogues' albums. Some are obvious, especially IISFFGWG, but others less so.

Does any know what the origin of Red Roses for Me and Waiting for Herb are? In particular, is Herb an actual person and, if so, whom?

Cheers.
